shiny side up! should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Anyone going to the Swedish Rally?

Anyone going to see (or been before) the Swedish WRC event? I'm an American, so I've never been to a WRC Rally, but I am in Scandanavia right now so I am going to go check it out...

If anyone can give me tips on how or where to see the most action, I would greatly appreciate it! I have a feeling I may have a hard time figuring out what to do/where to go, with my limited rally watching experience (only seen it on TV) and the fact that I don't know the Swedish language...

Thanks!

You could have a look at the Rally Guide at wrc.com http://www.wrc.com/en_GB/Rallies/Con...lyOverview.htm

For the Monte they had a stage guide, which might be appearing for Sweden over the coming week.

The official site is also useful linked from the wrc.com page). It has a stage by stage guide with coments

For example SS1

" The first 3km of this stage offer some awesome curves on an upward slope (access road from Äppelbo). There is also a section worth seeing at Ö. Lackotjärn has lots of full speed turns (access from RV 64 via Neva). At the downward slope near the end you can see some really tough driving, the finish line has been placed after a hairpin left. Great spectator places with excellent viewing.

" There is a lot of parking spaces near the finish, there is limited parking on the roads from Äppelbo, Neva and at the start. "

Let us know how you get on.

I hear Sweden is a very boring place to visit nowadays - except when rally is on of course!

One interestning thing...

It is illegal for the organisers to charge people for money when entering for a stage due to the Swedish right of common access. It costs 80 Swedish kronor to enter a stage...

Would anyone who attended the Swedish Rally like to write about it for the newsletter? Simon does our regular race reports of course, but I'd love to have a personal experiences story!

That was AWESOME!!!!

I drove over to Sweden this weekend to see Day 2 of the Rally, and it was great! Coverage of the WRC in the US is horrible, so I didn't know quite what to do when I got there, what to do/see/look for, but I figured it out quick enough! I wish I had a better camera... I have a slow, cheap digital one that was really hard to take pictures of (fast) moving cars with. I have an OK picture of Colin getting way too far sideways around a sweeper, and a blurry pic of Marcus (he was 2.5 meters away doing ~160kph!).

All in all it was wonderful. I had a ton of fun, and learned a lot that will make the next Rally I attend even more fun!!!

Sweden was lovely, a bit flatter than where I am in Norway, but the land is quite beautiful. The food is a little sweet for my tastes, seemed like even the bread was a bit sweet! But the people were very nice to me (except the marshal who took issue with my viewing spot in Stage 11, but that was his job!!
