Ganassi shenanigans - Stremme released, a seat for Franchitti?

Just watching NASCAR Now. It has been announced that David Stremme is parting company with Chip Ganassi due to lack of sponsor (although Ganassi wants him back in future apparently) and the big rumour is that Dario Franchitti will fill the void.

Interesting stuff alright!

ThePenguin should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I don't think that it is a lack of sponsorship, but rather a lack of performance form David Stremme that caused this move.

David Stremme, who has driven the No. 40 Dodge for Ganassi, since the 2006 season, will not return to the team next season. Earlier this week, Ganassi officials announced sponsor Coors Light would not be returning to the team.

Likely set to replace Stremme is current Indy Racing League points leader Dario Franchitti.

It's funny, Stremme replaced Sterling Marlin because Coors wanted a younger driver in the seat...and then they leave.

I would've guessed Chip would want one of his drivers who was rumored for the seat, like Danny Wheldon. Franchitti, sounds a little off, but eh.

Doesn't surprise me that Coors is leaving as a sponsor. The team has been a mediocre performer for the last 5 years or so. Also Stremme has never been a top performer in NASCAR and never even won a race. I thought it was a mistake for Ganassi to hire him in the first place.

Yes. He will be going the ARCA and Busch route.

Although amusingly they said this despite there being no confirmation!

I have an idea. I reckon they deck JPM's car out in the classic Target livery and get Kool sponsorship on board to sponsor Dario's car.

Yes, I am an idiot.

You cant knock Chip for chasing good drivers though and maybe Dan wants to stay where he is. I say good on him for snapping him up.

Right now it looks like he will wait until next year to do any cup races for them.

Chip Ganassi Racing has confirmed that, as expected, it has signed the reigning Indy 500 and IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti for the 2008
NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series season.

The 34-year-old was released from his contract with Andretti Green Racing earlier this week, fuelling speculation that a move to NASCAR was imminent, with Chip Ganassi's outfit confirming that he will drive the #40 Dodge alongside Reed Sorenson and Juan
Pablo Montoya
next season at the start of a multi-year deal.

"Any time you can sign a driver of Dario's calibre you have to be thrilled," Ganassi said. "Dario is a world-class driver. He is a proven winner, an
Indianapolis
500 champion and an accomplished individual that will be a super team-mate to both Juan Pablo and Reed."

God knows really. Depends what level Ganassi/Sabates can reach.

Speaking of "Ganassi shenanigans" - anyone see Reed, Stremme and JPM singing at some baseball game? They showed it during the first rain break at Kansas. I never want to be subjected to that again!

Franchitti finished seventeenth after having started at the back after having to change parts on the car (his teammate also had to).

He reached the top ten but had a pit error and droppe back a bit. Still sounded respectable.

Scott Speed finished seventh!

Well, fortunately the addition of Franchitti, an Indy 500 winner married to a famous Hollywood actress, will surely bring more $$$$ in sponsorship to Ganassi/Sabates and help push the team forward.
