So I have no probs with chev engines in them now
CAMS also classify V8 Supercars as sports sedans, that is not so relevant IMO, it is just how they fit into the classification. TCM are 99% Group C & previous cars - not sure any cars are specifically inspired by sports sedans?

But they are not an historic category hence many upgrades and freedoms. I don't agree with everything, but I recognise they have to 'make it work' and applaud the category for offering the "TCM engine" as a way of dealing with excessive costs.

The TCM rules seem to say a car is allowed to race if it is allowed.

So if a Ford Capri can run with a 6L Chev engine, could a Torana XU1 run with the 6L Chev?

I don’t see why not.

I think it can be used in any current car bar the Porsche 911.

Ridiculous rule, a car should have to run with an engine that is the same make as the car.

That ship sailed back in 2012 when Jim Richards' Javelin debuted with a Dodge motor, and since then lots of Holdens have had SBCs (small block Chevs) instead of Holden V8s - I'm not sure when that when that changed, does anyone know?

The Managers of this category seem unable to maintain a web site

Look at their home page:

http://www.touringcarmasters.com.au/

Under Outright it shows Johnson first on 450 points then Bressington second on 462 points
Under Pro Master it shows Johnson with 540 points

Don't press the "View all results " button

It shows the 2014 STANDINGS

I have mentioned their slackness before on this thread but they just don't seem to care.

Speedcafe reporting that the mighty HQ will be joining the grid of TCM in 2020.

That will make Ted Bullpit very happy!

She looks mean but if you can run the same engine in a Torana, hard to know why you'd spend the money.

HQ Holden Monaros have already been in TCM for years, haven't they?

"HQ Holden set for 2020 Touring Car Masters debut"

The word "debut" appears to be demonstrably untrue! "A HQ Holden set for 2020 TCM debut" or "Holden Kingswood set for 2020 TCM debut" would be more accurate -- notwithstanding that the only difference between a HQ Kingswood and a HQ Monaro four-door appear to be the louvres in the front quarter panel. *awaits Holden enthusiast to correct me*

Quote:
The introduction of bonnet and bootlid paint-outs in 1973 coincided with the release of the HQ Monaro GTS in four-door sedan configuration. It is generally considered that Holden created the bold contrasting paint-outs so the new Monaro GTS sedan would not be mistaken for the humble Kingswood sedan upon which it was based.

Nissan Bluebird TCM debut on the other hand -- now that's what I want to see! Bring on the turbos to TCM!

More info on the HQ Monaro four-door...

Quote:
The SS was a limited build model to test the market for a 4-door sports sedan & was released for the Sydney Motor Show in late 1972. Previous Holden sports models all had 2 doors. It was based on a 253 Belmont sedan & got M20 4-speed, buckets seats, centre console, GTS guards, road wheels, instruments & steering wheel.

With the success of the SS, GM-H went ahead in early 1973 & released a 4-door Monaro GTS. The GTS/4-door was equipped basically to the same level as the Monaro GTS coupe & was based on a Kingswood sedan. At this same time, GM-H took the opportunity to upgrade the GTS range with bonnet black-outs & altered badges etc. Unlike the SS, the GTS could be optioned with 253, 308 or 350 engines & automatic transmission, along with all the regular stuff like power steer, a/cond, power windows etc. It was also available in many exterior & interior colour combinations.
http://www.fastlane.com.au/Forum/pos...aspx#post46775

It's very interesting stuff IMO -- great to see a four-door HQ Kingswood join the existing four-door and two-door HQ Monaros in TCM!

To think folks were once upon a time smashing up future Touring Car Masters HQ Kingswood bodies as if they were worthless (below). Such a shame.

Would this decision be based on the HQ Kingswood Malcolm Ramsay ran back in the day in the ATCC?

That suggests there is a degree of logic to these decisions.

Regardless, would it not be trivial to convert the genuine HQ Kingswood to a replica HQ Monaro four-door, which would make it consistent with the existing Touring Car Masters entry list?

Given TCMs are logbooked as sports sedans, I don't suppose originality is all that important!!

They only said a Kingswood will be racing next year, not that it was the first ever that I can see?

Definitely no need to be genuine cars, none of the Falcons are GTHOs.

Noticed in the TCM races at SMP last weekend that Aaron Seton beat Steve Johnson in ALL four races plus 2qualifying sessions.

Shows that real talent will win out over oversponsored.blokes. And with only a 5.0 L against a 5.8l

For all those who scream he's underrated, turning up in an already series-winning car and doing it all again had me wondering what was doing the winning.

Can he do it again with the XD and prove he can build a winning package and then win with it?

For me good to see a great young driver in a series like this.
