I wondered why they took the shell back to Qld when it came down to Sydney for the acid dipping work to be completed...

Why would acid dipping not be allowed?

Wasn't in banned in the ATCC/Group 3A 5000cc after DJR and other teams dabbled in lightweight shells?

Indeed, it's a different issue in TCM where an old car body may be hiding the horrors of shoddy filler work, which can only be uncovered by acid dipping.

Curious that Team Johnson are going to cage an old shell, unlike the flatpack approach used by Oscar "Man of a Thousand Springs" Fioranotto's Supashock to construct the Rusty French TCM Mustang from the floorpan up, to claimed 0.5mm accuracy IIRC... https://autoaction.com.au/2017/12/05...nch-connection [That the as-delivered suspension settings of the wizz-bang Mustang were not drivable, doesn't detract from Supashock's claimed guruship in the area of suspension, naturally ]

The ability to construct a brand new bodyshell would seem reason to stick with Mustang and replace Mustang Sally with a new improved Mustang of tighter tolerances and other enhancements, but Team Johnson seem to instead be siding with fan sentiment instead of strict engineering considerations...

Inappropriate circuit choice is the problem.

Surely amateur owner-drivers (the majority of TCM) would prefer to race on permanent circuits with large run-off areas?

Hmm, for Datsun enthusiasts would a GTR Hakosuka be eligible for TCM, presumably the Bluebird will be shortly elligible too?

It's seems curious there are no mighty Datsuns in the series.

The under 2000cc (?) class with the lovely Alfa GTAm repliac is most underpublicised and an iconic datsun 1600 would be nice in the TCM class ranks.

I note that BMW 2002 and BMW 3000 CSL are also sadly absent from the series.

Mercedes-Benz is also under-represented in Touring Car Masters.

Datsun 510s have raced in the past.

Hakosukas are getting harder to find these days, likewise the parts. Not sure it's a wise choice. In a perfect world, I'd love to see one out there with an angry L-series in it. I doubt it'd be an outright contender though.

Mate that's the biggest load of BS ever. No one is forcing them to drive that hard, and for that matter, no one is forcing them to even enter this round. If the walls are close, the track bumpy, or whatever else, you adjust your driving accordingly. Just like when it rains, they don't all still brake at the same point as in the dry!!

If they are driving THAT hard ( right at or obviously in some cases above their talent level ), then they have to expect to eat concrete, and have no one to blame but themselves, and from my seat, if they're that stupid / hell bent on winning that they'll drive that hard, then they get no sympathy from me when they inevitably eat concrete.

I was thinking the same thing, Terry.

Noticed Mr Johnson Snr, busy under the bonnet of Master Johnson’s Mustang yesterday before the qualifying session.

Not quite. I believe he has retired the Javelin and will only run the Falcon Sprint on an occasional basis.

Jim often says he's scaling down the driving he does, so just the occasional round makes sense
