Jordan to run multiple liveries!

http://www.itv-f1.com/news/news_story/18885

apparently Eddie wants to ruin different liveiers at different races! presumably as some sort of media stunt, or maybe for different companies to advertise only at their home race!

The later sounds more reasonable. I'm sure there are a number of sponsors out there that would try this. In a way, Jaguar did this last season in conjunction with the T3 movie opening. Although they did not completely change their livery. We see this over here in the States quite often, so why not in F1? Any way for the small teams (or large ones) to gain sponsorship dollars is good right? They need money after all.

Yes, they probably need the money and so can only attract short-term deals. Hence the need for liveries to change rapidly.

That one sponsor for two cars rule is so stupid. What is the point? I wonder if any of the recently departed teams might still be in the series without that rule.

Good point Snrub. This kind of ties in with the thread about the numbering system for cars.

Over here in the States most of the team cars are painted differently and have separate sponsorship packages. Is this an actual rule in Formula 1, or is it an FIA rule that is applied to all its series?

And as Climb points out, in today's economic climate any method to get sponsorship money is worth while.

On the evidence of last year he EJ could show each of his three logos in rotation - Hummph!

Mind you I could understand for the smaller teams that attracting a songle sponsor for a single race makes sense.

Rumour has it that Portaloo may being loined up for Silverstone and DynoRod for the Brazilian!

They tried. FIA doesn't allow different liveries for the 2 cars in the same team.

Good for the sponsors and good for the team. They'll be guaranteed some TV time every race just so we can see what the car looks like with a different logo and paint scheme.

Its a good move, and it could become more common place in the future.

As long as the base livery remains the same I don't really see the problem. But I think the two cars should resemble each other at each meeting.

If the livery is changed drastically (base colour etc.) between the races there is a danger though that the team could lose it's identity. And identity is one thing Jordan does have!

Good point from ParkLife about the actual colour, which I think should be the same race-by-race. however, I'm perfectly happy for teams to run a multitude of different single-race or short-term sponsors, perhaps region-specific ones, or run the 2 cars with different sponsors. It's perfectly standard in US championships, adn even in soccer many teams have different sponsorship on the second-choice kit (which is a different colour, by definition), and it gives the private teams more chance of battling it out on an even keel.

Benetton had various different sponsors on the sidepods in 1994: Bitburger, Benetton SportSystem, and others which I can't remember right now.

IIRC, Minichamps sponsored Benetton at Hochenheim.

I think that it is a great idea as it allows jordan to tailor sponsorship packages to local requirements. For example, maybe one sponsor who's main market maybe canada or the usa can have maximum exposure for those races and much less exposure on the car at others.

"apparently Eddie wants to RUIN different liveiers at different races!"

well with Jordan performances it may very well show that the liveries are ruined along with the company that provided them!

The fia don't allow a teams cars to be painted differently. It's some obscure tech reason that is linked to the stick max has up his b*tt.

Ligier did it one year though didnt it, when they launched a new branding on Gauloises... Martin Brundle had one car design, while the other driver had another... and what of the Marlboro and Marlboro Lites McLarens when Keke Rosberg was around??

Perhaps what this noise is trying to say is that the team cant land one big sponsor so it needs to find 17 (or is it 18) medium sized ones for the different race meetings.

Presumably this is linked to the 3rd driver thing as well...

The lady in charge of sewing the badges on the team uniforms will be the busiest member of that team in 2004

Perhaps it would be too confusing for the drivers if a team had two different liveries.
