We did 8 stages in total .... the camera didnt get out of the bag on 4 of them!

It was a very difficult rally to get into good photo spots without a media vest.

Thanks for the comments.

Escorted tour.

I wrote about my impressions of the trip in the other Finland thread. I wonder if it tallies with your experience of the trip.

I was also escourted

Yeah you impressions pretty much sum up what I though. I had been before so I kind of knew what to expect. Killeri is a waste of time and would rather have stayed at the hotel ... Wish we could have gotten to the stages earlier ... but then I guess Rally Travel have to accomodate all levels of spectators.

Shakedown and Ouninpohja were also major dissapointments.

Any more rallies this year?

Cheers

Looks like I wasn't the only one who wondered what on earth Killeri was all about! I stood there thinking I'd rather by sitting by the lake at the hotel!

I thought Ouninpohja was ok, obviously, you would have to go a thousand times to be able see all the legendary bits but the hairpin left are we found was not too bad I thought.

No more rallies for me this year I'm afraid. I tend to do one every other year. I may do Germany next year though or failing that, Sweden the year after. I have thought about going to a rally in the UK or maybe one of the Irish tarmac rounds in the future.

Regards

More about the pics than the rally.

Very nice work. The first pan is excellent. Really imparts the speed of the flight.

Hi Jay,

Like you, I was on the escourted tour, although we were on the other bus (the one that crashed!). I believe we did speak briefly but don;t think I introduced myself properly.

My thoughts on the trip echo yours, and it was not what I was expecting at all. I think part of the problem was the strict marshalls and the red tape which was placed quite a distance back from the stage itself. This made it a difficult rally to take photos at, made even more difficult by the masses of finnish spectators who, while occupying most of the space closest to the tape, seemed more interested in getting drunk than watching the cars.

That said, we tended to find the further you walked from where rally travel dropped us, the more the crowd numbers and marshall numbers dropped and the better the viewing and photo taking oportunities became.

You can see some of the better shots that I managed to get at http://www.flasheye.co.uk/gallery22.htm

Perhaps I will see you on another escourted tour next year (not Finland though).
