RX crash in France ´96 @ internations cup

Hello

I´m Jakob from Denmark, and this is my first post here. I am doing a bit of rallycross myself in the ex. Mike Dresser Ford escort.

I would like to find some infomation regarding the crash that went on during a D1 heat at the internations cup in France 1996, at the Essay´Orne track (I belive). Unfortunately 7 people got killed.
Anything has interest: link, videos, footage, artichels etc.

Jakob

Hi and welcome Jakob! Five people lost their lives in the first ever fatal accident in RX history. Behind their names you will find always the same information by myself and my French friend/colleague Jacques Privat. I know that my mate Johnny Loix has many pics of the accident, but he has so far always refused to publish them AFAIK. And I sincerely hope you cannot find any pics or videos about the accident in the web, sorry…!

Thank you for the link. Actually that is the only piece of infomation I have come across at all in relation to the crash. So the "cover-up" seems to have succeded.

Anyway, I can´t blame you for your respect of the deceased spectators and their family. My intentions is not to find pictures and videos of dead people, rather the actual crash itself.

The reason: my father were one of the drivers involved in the actual heat. His car went straght into an Audi which caused the back of his car to go into the air, and ultimately the car was stading 90 deg. When it went back again, the car of Jos Sterkens had come to a hold under my fathers car causing the cars to be "parked" on top of each other.

So is the story I have head from him, and as the page you linked to. But I have only seen very few fotos from some old French news papers.

So the post was ment as a help to better be able to understand what really happend that day.

Anyway thank you, for your help.

Okay, understand your special interest now. But you know as good as I know that there are lots of people searching the web just to satisfy their need for sensation, no matter about the grief that came over the families of the victims.

I was not there that day but was very well informed about all by JoLo. I understood that all cars eventually crashed in one way or another, but cannot find immediately my info about what cars/drivers were involved. If you meet Johnny one day – check all out with him. CU!

I know Jaap van Tol was also driving this heat, but he managed to avoid the accident.

Thank you. A shame I chose german instead of french in school, so I can´t make much sense of the text anyway.

The car of my father is the one that is parked on the nose in the last picture. Actually it is the one I race in now -> http://www.kaisportpics.de/images/20.../ES2_0723.html

The car was coming close to being sold to a french bidder at it had led big damage from the insident. And the car was held at the police impound for several days as the investegation went on. So the will to continue rallycross at that time was not the greatest.

But by combining the text from the web-page rx-guru linked to, and the pictures of the last page, it gives me a fair picture of how it all happened.

I wounder why the friction flag wasn´t showed to the drivers. Anyone who knows who ultimately was blamed (if anyone at all)?

Here it is said the Course Director eventually got 12 months suspended prison, while the FFSA representative got relieved of any sentence in appeal.
http://clubobs.nouvelobs.com/article...15.FAP7535.xml Look at the date of the article, the court proceedings took a long long time.

I´m glad you think my driving permance is well. I can see that my lap times improves for every race. And the better do so, because this is only my second season in a full D1 car, so I have still got a lot to learn.
I have no long-term future plans, but to participate in selected danish and german championship events.
My father will return to rallycross in 2008, and it will of corse be the main objective of the team to keep his Ford Focus running.

Has the legal aftermath of the incident really taken 10 years to proceed?!

Anyway, my curriousity has been satisfied now, so no need for further replies concerning the accident.
