DTM Round 1 Hockenheim
All I can say is it's about bloody time.
I see DTM has a new-look web site for the season opener. Event schedule for the weekend here (and, time and date converter if anyone (else) needs one here). I don't see live timing anywhere on the site though. Have the marketing types taken a page from F1 and decided to make us register first, or is that portion of their offering still to come? |

Hi all,
Still the best quality field in tin-tops, especially with Paffett returning adding another champion. Hopefully we're in for a close season. I didn't follow it too closely last year, but being an Adam Carroll fan I'll be watching this season. DTM cars should suit his style, although you can't expect too much in a 05 car. Any indication how close the '06 cars will be? Also good to see the Euroseries being covered live on Motors TV, helps make a day of it. |

euroseries live on motors tv?!?!?!?! happy days! at last! anyway im a carroll nut so i will have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the world of tin tops but at least its dtm, which ive always watched so its not that bad. cant see adam's career going anywhere now though. i guess its the best you could ask for though when you practically have no money to bring to top teams in top series...

Hey Charlies. Welcome to ten-tenths. Seems there's more than just a few Adam Carroll fans around so you're in good company. I'm looking forward to to it myself, even if he is, as Flexible-flyer points out, just a little short on sponsorship.

Thanks Last2LiftOff. Hopefully Carroll can impress and get stronger drives in the future. I thought in the off-season he might struggle for any drive, but in DTM he'll be worth watching, even if we probably won't see much of him on TV.

Perhaps from DTM he can also get a toe into sportscars if he's interested. Not really a bad route even if some knock it - observe the lineup for Peugeot at LM this year which is filled with quality just-below-F1 talent (Lamy, Gene, Bourdais, Minassian, Sarrazin, and the exception, Villeneuve). |

I think you're right. Having struggled for sponsorship his whole career the US wasn't an option and another season of GP2 outside of the front running teams would have damaged his career. At least if he impresses in DTM he can have a career in racing, and if he was lucky get another test in F1. I certainly think he's more of a prospect than Rossiter, but that's another thread.
As an aside, I read a rumour over the weekend that Paffett might get a seat at Prodrive's F1 team if it uses McLaren chassis, so perhaps the DTM return is part of a longer term plan. I was surprised he didn't try harder to find a seat elsewhere in F1, so perhaps the Prodrive link explains the move. |

I read today that he will only do one more year of DTM and he still aims for a F1 spot.

Add me to the list of Adam Carroll fans who can't wait to see what he'll do in the DTM.
GP2 is definitely missing him this year... so .. do we start an over/under on how many places he'll finish in front of Ickx? ..if I set the bar at 5 would that be optimistic? (I'll still take the over!) -S. |

Better to spend a season in DTM in Europe than racing open wheel in America, year old car or not. It seems obvious McLaren made room for him versus, say, Frankie Cheng, which suggests some kind of plan.

Di Resta fastest though in the year old Merc?
Very scrambled first day of practice - I'm sure I detect sandbags. |

Probably some are sandbagging, like HWA, Di Resta's time was 1.2s slower than the last pole in Hockenheim, allthough they have different tyres this year of which i dont know if they're faster or slower.

Remember that Björk was 3rd fastest in a practice session with a 2004 car last year, so it is very possible to go quick for one lap it seems

There must be sandbagging with Audi filling most of the top 10 on what's traditionally been a Mercedes circuit. Good to see Carroll up there and well ahead of Ickx, although it will be staggering if he isn't faster all season.

Well, being ahead of Ickx is not exactly a big prestation I agree he's doing well.
I'm extremely dissapointed by the positions of Luhr and Rockenfeller though, I had hoped them to be further up in the listings. Adaption problems or different reasons? |

Am I right in assuming Motors TV are not showing qualifying live or otherwise this season?
