DP's down below 1:46 at Daytona

In just the first few minutes the CGR Riley And Scott broke 1:46 with a lap of 1:45.786. Thought I would pass it along. So it looks like the DP's are really going to go a lot faster this year.

Obvious sandbagging on the DP teams part. GA should have let nature take it's course and let the DPs advance without placing what now are obviously unneeded, restrictions on the GT class.

Bob, I assume you mean during test days that they were sandbagging...

And every session up till qualifying. Particularly the Rileys. The CGR never went better than 1.48.3. Both pulled off about 3 seconds per lap over their previous best lap in either test days or this week's practice. This kind of jump in times including the Doran and Fabcars has not been exhibited at any time. I can't imagine that they all of a sudden had favorable conditions.

Certainly too late to make any sort of 'competition' adjustments for the Daytona 24, the biggest race of their calendar.

I think the bull was just released in the china shop.

Like sandbagging doesn't exist at LeMans or Formula 1.

Get off the horse, Bob.

I'm hearing that all the DP's are pulling off very similar and close lap times.

That should make for a very close race.

But Le Mans and Formula 1 don't use the mantra of "everyone is equal". You apparently missed my point about what was done to the GT cars. Are you implying that Audi or Bentley sandbag in order to get Corvette to add weight?

Now about the horse. . .

Are you implying Brumos and Bell sandbagged last year to get GT to add weight?

basically, that GT was "de-engineered" in order to give the DP's a better chance of maintaining the lead in, as well as winning, races.

In the state they were in, GT's would outclass the DP's, and still be able to cross between Grand Am and FIA/ACO/IMSA race weekends. A major return on investment, if there ever was one.

exactly.

Even the designer of the Fiat Multipla would have rejected any DP on the grounds that it was ugly, slow, and useless

It didn't work, did it? Three more laps and the podium would have been full of Porsches. That car that won was on its last legs as it staggered over the line. And if the race had gone 6 more laps, the winner would have been Mike Rockenfeller, a 20 year old in his first 24 hour race, in a brand new team, in a Porsche that had been "dumbed down" to prevent what it darned near did.

I thought the end of that race was the most exciting thing I've seen recently and I cheered out loud when the NA$CAR fell to bits.

The #74 Flying Lizard car wasn't dumbed down Liz, it was a 911 GT3 Cup. So I guess it was "dumbed up"? I think that makes it an even more amazing drive by Rockenfeller and the Flying Lizard team. Rockenfeller is a star of the future. Speed said that he was in the car from 5:00 am to the finish!

Actually Liz, Rockenfeller's car wasn't one of the dumbed down cars. It was actually a ex Grand Am Cup, Porsche GT3 Cup car. Which would have been *interesting* had such a car won the race.

Come on, I'm just trying to stop that kind of fire in another thread, and this is starting here again, but at the opposite.

Leave the DPs alone, I cannot see the point to harass them , except to get upset their fans. And spam the threads with agressive talks.
