Sadly, we will have to emigrate to Australia to hear it.

Its several years now since we've heard him commentate at a Grand Prix and the televised races are the worse for his absence. Murray Walker is truely the greatest, I'm sure a good part of F1's success in the UK is down to him. By contrast James Allen's attempt at creating artificial excitement is no substitute [and that's a polite way of putting it].

Murray you were far too young to retire... come back now !

I don't think Murray should return, as I think he retired about 3 or 4 years too late: come the end of his career, "Murrayisms" were becoming the rule rather than the exception.

I appreciated him as a commentator. He was very good at it.

Everything, however, has to end: to bring something of this nature back because we are not happy with the present is, IMO, a recipe for disaster that doesn't do any party justice.

You are right of course. The man's 82 after all. Its strange that ITV persist with James Allen when virtually everyone disapproves of him.

Murray is to Motorsport commentary as George Best is to Football....you cannot think about one without thinking about the other.

Murray should stay retired, when he commentates you realise how bad the others are.

He has forgotten more about motorsport than most people will have ever learnt about the sport

Murray is of course the best & I am really looking forward to hearing him again. Sadly I can't see him coming back full time & even if he did, honestly how many more years could he continue but surely their is a better option then James Allen

Personally I would love to see Murray Back with ITV on F1 commentry replacing James Allen, dont get me wrong James Allen does a ok job but hes nothing special and at times he can become a bit annoying. That said, he could be a lot worse. Still, back to the matter at hand, yes we probably wont ever get Murray back in the commentry seat full time for F1 but GP Masters is a definte possibilty, he was part of the commentry team at the opening round at Kyalami last year after all.

Murray was the on-track commentator for the first round of V8Supercars at Adelaide last week.

Wasn't a direct feed to television but as the cars approached the back of the circuit down near turn 8 the camera must have been near the PA System and you could pick up his voice screaming in excitement over the loudspeaker every time they showed a car in that part of the track - brought back memories and was great to hear.

He makes me laugh though - there was one point of the race where there was a safety car period - the lights were out and as they went around to turn 8 you could hear Murray say "It looks like Lowndes out in front...yes...yes it is ( Craig had been leading the race for around 30 laps by this stage!! ) and he swerves back and forth, back and forth trying to get some heat in the tyres.

some things will never change!!

Indeed. It really was wonderful to hear him, and it sounded as though he wasn't doing that bad a job. It certainly brought a smile to my face.

It would be a shame if Murray were to sout his great reputation; he's not likely to be as good as he was. Using his experience in other ways, perhaps interviews or reports, would make more sense.

I agree that Murray should not return to his role as ITVs F1 commentator. The travelling schedule is perhaps a little too hectic for an 82 year old, even one as fit & active as he is.

He is perhaps the best commentator the racing world will ever know. He has left a legacy that is incredibly difficult to follow, as James Allen is presently discovering.

What would be nice however, would be if he was to join James and Martin at Silverstone this year

That would be a wonderful idea, it might even be worth bombarding the ITV inbox with a few emails to that effect!

However, I fear that such a close comparison with Murray could give more ammunition to James Allen's detractors.

He even brought back some of his own 'Murrayisms' - "With half the session gone there is still half to go"!

My favourite was when the camera was focussed on Ide, he was being very generous saying that he's still learning F1 & the track. At that moment they showed him (on the inboard camera) falling off the track, to which Murray replied - "And he is learning the ENTIRE track"!! (Or words to that effect....)

Awesome Murray.....
