2017 Pirelli World Challenge Rounds 1 and 2: St. Petersburg

The Pirelli World Challenge season opener at St. Petersburg is less than two weeks away, so I figured it was about time for the event thread.

The initial entry list has 14 cars in GT, 8 in GTA and 19 in GTS.

2016 Team Champions K-PAX Racing are returning with their Flying Lizard-run Mclaren 650s GT3s, and a driver lineup featuring 2016 Driver Champion Alvaro Parente in the #9, along with Team Falken Tire legend Bryan Sellers in the #6 and 10-Tenths' own Mike Hedlund in the #98.

2016 runner-up Patrick Long is also returning in his #58 911 GT3-R, along with Porsche stalwarts Wright Motorsports, who he finished last year's season with. Wright's 2016 GTA driver, Michael Schein is also entered in his #16 Porsche.

Longtime PWC competitors Cadillac Racing are returning with the ATS-V.R, their Sprint lineup of former multi-champion Johnny O'Connell in the #3, and young gun Michael Cooper in the #8, is unchanged.

CRP Racing is likewise set to return, but with a new car in the #2 Mercedes AMG GT3 and a new driver in Ryan Dalziel.

Realtime Racing also has new cars: their Acura NSX GT3s will be driven by Ryan Eversley and Peter Kox.

Magnus Racing will make their PWC debut with two Audi R8 GT3s for John Potter in GTA and one TBA driver in GT.

R. Ferri Motorsport returns after a one year hiatus. Their Ferrari 488 GT3 is set to be driven by Ferrari pilot Alex Riberas.

Absolute Racing has two Bentley Continental GT3s on the entry list, with Adderly Fong returning in the #88 and a TBA driver in the #78.

Gainsco Racing has switched to Porsche, with team regular Jon Fogarty returning to drive the "Red Dragon".

TRG has entered an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 at St. Pete for James Davison.

GMG has two Porsches entered in GTA for James Sofronas and 2016 GT Cup Champion Alec Udell.

TR3 Racing is entering a Ferrari 488 GT3 for Daniel Mancinelli in GTA

Black Swan Racing will run a Mercedes AMG GT3 for team owner Tim Pappas.

Champ 1 has also entered a Mercedes in GTA, set to be driven by Pablo Perez Companc.

Notably absent from the entry is Always Evolving/AIM Autosport, who will reportedly return at Long Beach with a reduced effort.

Strangely absent from the list is 2016 GTA Champion Martin Fuentes, who has been announced to run the season in a new Ferrari 488 GT3 with Scuderia Corsa.

The GTS class likewise features fantastic entries from high quality teams like Flying Lizard Motorsports, Blackdog Speed Shop, ANSA Motorsports, Mantella Autosport and GMG.

New GT4 cars from McLaren, Chevy, Porsche and Panoz will be racing alongside cars from 2016 like the KTMs and Ginettas.

Apparently Panoz will be testing the Avezzano tomorrow before it debuts at St. Pete:

Looking at the schedule I might be able to watch race 2 for the GT/A/Cup.

Shame they are continuing with the horrible media package from last season. I'd really like to watch this season with the new GT4 cars but there's no way I'm paying for MTOD when pretty much every other series provides a free post-race stream.

If you have a FTA SAT dish, Indycar is usually on Galaxy 17 and AMC 9. Thus, you'll find most PWC sessions live.

Jorge De La Torre's Aston has been added to the entry. Good to see he'll be returning to the track.

Two GTCup cars? Why even have the class? Just flip a coin and determine the winner.

Even better: merge the two cars into GTA and give 'm a 'special' performance boost or something.

Sad to see just two Camaros and one Mustang.

No Nissans, Toyotas/Lexus, BMWs or Lamborghinis in any class.

Entry list has been updated, #78 Absolute Bentley to be driven by Yufeng Luo.
Also, Krugspeed has entered a Porsche GT4 for Cameron Maugeri in GTS.

The Mustang is an old Boss 302R that was grandfathered in. Thus, not GT4 proper.

The GTCup podium finisher for St. Pete next week, is racing in Trans-Am this weekend at Sebring in TA3 with the same car. Maybe PWC should invite the TA3 guys up to St. Pete for GTCup and have a real race then. There are 14 TA3 cars in Sebring and it's only an hour away along with being within a week. If Trans-Am can BoP them, I suspect PWC could too.

They're both on Pirelli now, so that helps!

With PTA and PWC having a crossover class, that will definitely be a boost for both. I'd like to see TA4 and TC be yet another crossover and then GT and TA be the third. As we all know, FIA GT3 cars are allowed to run in SCCA GT1. So, that means, GT3 can run in TA and vice versa. It would be nice to see some Vettes in PWC as there are plenty in PTA.

The times between TA practice today and 2016 GTD qualifying times at Sebring aren't that far off. Maybe we can take last gen GT3 and TA to form a new series we all need

I try to list all the Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3 by their chassis number and races made

For the PWC St Petersburg round is it possible for those who have the chance to approach the cars, to collect for me the chassis number of the 2 Aston Martin Vantage V12 GT3

-#007 TRG in GT class
-#04 De La Torre Racing in GTA class

Chassis number is visible on the bottom left of the windshield.
It is found in this format : AMRVANTAGE GT3-XXX or GA3-xxxx

http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143190

Many thanks for your help

Having GT3 in PTA would at least give the GT3 driver a 20 minute longer race over a regular PWC or even much more than a Sprint X. Seems odd that in PTA, most of the drivers have had an AARP card for at least 20 years and can manage to drive over an hour in a blast furnace. An FIA GT3 car in GT1 probably gets more race time on an SCCA Majors weekend over a PWC one.
