Williams: Do they have a plan?

"A lot of things wrong with Williams" Lance Stroll.

http://www.f1reader.com/news/william...-stroll-193485

What is Williams end game?

They sacked their best driver, found two pay drivers, and they now look destined to prop up the rear of the grid for 2018 on their Bahrain qualifying form.

What is Williams end game?

Lance Stroll seemed very unhappy when interviewed. Not with his own performances if you can call them that, but with the team and car.
With Force India being allegedly on the market, and of uncertain future, cue Force Canada rumours for 2019.....
Not sure what contractual arrangement exists with Williams though so purely a conspiracy theory at this stage.

Not sure what else could have been expected.

They have drivers with close to zero set up ability at this level, and a questionable tech director leading.

Paddy Lowe? I recall reading Frank Dernie describing PL as "probably the cleverest guy he ever hired."

I do know that Frank Dernie never really enjoyed being a manager type. Far too interested in getting the hands dirty. So maybe he hadn't hired that many over the years, largely leaving that to others to build them technical team around and beneath him.

It was pretty annoying listening to Anthony Davidson try to defend Williams' decisions to hire Stroll and Sirotkin during commentary of first practice yesterday.

Interestingly only 0.8 seconds between Sirotkin and Lewis in Q1.

Which was strange, Ant should know better than most that talent doesn't always mean opportunity.

Unfortunately this looked likely to happen as soon as they announced their driver line up, which is the worse one on the grid. They need to start thinking about getting a decent no.1 driver for next season to sit along side $troll or $irotken. That is just the start. There is obviously something wrong with the car itself as well.

It saddens me.

A plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a Williams.

Is it the drivers, one is an ex Euro F3 Champion , the other was competitive in GP2. They should try Kubica a bit more, at the moment I think it is 50/50 drivers and car.

The fact that they were made to look silly by Sauber says it all.... They've been in the doldums for a while now, but right now they looked positively beached......
