The story between Mirko Bortolotti and Audi finally lasted only one year. Last winter, the Italian left Lamborghini to join the ranks of Audi. The Audi R8 LMS/Audi Sport Team WRT that he drove with Frédéric Vervsich and Charles Weerts took second place in the 9 Hours of Kyalami during the final of the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli.
"On a personal level, I am quite happy with this second place", said Mirko Bortolotti. "It was my last race with Audi Sport because I will race for another brand next year. I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone at Audi Sport and WRT for a great year together. I will not continue with them but I will continue to have a lot of respect for everyone. We shared a very good year and I will keep very good memories of this season, even if it was very difficult for other reasons. »
Mirko Bortolotti's new employer has not been confirmed but the 2017 Blancpain GT Series champion Blancpain could be back with Lamborghini Squadra Corse even though no official announcement has been made.

Kyalami was a good and watchable race despite just 12 cars. Now that is too small to go forward with. But a race with just 20-30 GT3 cars is just fine. Spa 24 I think should be 36-40 cars going forward. Pro and silver cup only.
Maybe they can get Pro-am, Am, GT2 and sport club to run a support 3 hour race maybe.
For the races between 3 and 10 hours in length going forward. 25-30 is the ideal car count. Spa 24 what I said before.

Spa 24h will never be without Am, the SRO are very clear about how they value the presence of Am entries.
And they would never instate a maximum grid of 40 cars when they can let in many more and collect entry fees from each of them.

What is an entry fee nowadays anyway?

Even regardless of entry fees, SRO have been clear that Ams will not be going away. Unlike ACO, and to an extent IMSA, they recognise that should big teams leave, the Ams are the backbone of all of their series.
Similar to Creventic when the Pros started complaining about the quality of the Am drivers. Creventics response was "If you keep complaining, we'll drop the Pro classes", since they understand the Ams are the important side of things.
We like seeing the Pros. SRO understands the value of the Ams.

Kind of sad to see Dennis Lind being dropped. Wonder if his crash at Spa had something to do with it.

Lind is sticking with Barwell for British GT, so not entirely out of the lamborghini fold
