I hope they award no points at all, except for Munoz' pole position.
A race of 41 laps instead of 248 is not worthy of any points at all.

That's no one's fault. Unfortunately the weather intervened.

Race will be run on August 27. The event will have one practice session and then the race will resume on lap 72.

I couldn't find anything on the IndyCar website, to verify that.

I'm not going to read the rest of this thread as I don't know the result yet, but the newgarden Daly accident was horrible. I'm really glad he made it out of there. Did Daly try to correct a spin on an oval? Also really didn't like dixon's debris shot. Something like the halo is needed, but they need to be careful that it wouldn't make e.g. Newgarden's accident worse

I'm not saying it's anybody's fault. Just that I see no reason to award points for the little action we had.

Neither could I.

Thank God the Indycar website is keeping everybody up to date. At least we now know that "The Area in T2 Apron will be marked with orange paint"

Probably that is the most interesting thing they have to tell us at the moment (and the past 2 hours). Nothing about the state of the race, or the state of Daly or Newgarden.

NASCAR are far more irritating with their Twitter updates when they have rain delays.

This race won't be run tomorrow but will resume on August 27th. It'll be a one day event.

If they are going to rerun the race in August, points should be awarded then.

Right. Then and there.
Not now, after 41 laps of racing or 71 laps of "racing".

I just wonder if the rerun will be reduced laps, from the time of the Daly, Newgarden crash?

Glad they are going to finish what they started, not for the complainers here but for the fans that paid their money and spent their weekend to see 41 laps.

From lap 71 on, I assume.

Those people are even worse off, but I stayed up until 5 am (my time) for the Saturday night race. Am I allowed to be a bit frustrated?

Especially the lack of info coming from Indycar through the official channels was (and is) appalling.
I imagine they don't give a rat's ass about viewers in Europe, but I doubt those in America were better updated.

It's a bit of a weird decision to have the race later in the year when they'd already started it, but guess that it beats a quarter distance non-points race. Can't have been great for the spectators this year

It should be free admission for existing ticket holders and reduced admission for everyone else.

My biggest gripe was the lack of info from IndyCar/Race Control. Come on Mark Miles, pull your finger out.

I think they had little choice.
A few drivers (and Chip Ganassi and part of his teams?) had to leave for France.
Next weekend is no option, because of Le Mans, and the weekend thereafter, there already is another race.

I'm not sure it was lack of info. I think Indycar were indecisive themselves as to what they were going to do. BT Sport also didn't adjust their schedules until late in the day although I commend them for sticking with the live coverage.

I happen to think they need to be a bit more alive to the weather forecast when rescheduling. If it's bucketing down on Sunday don't hold it then.

Sure be frustrated, but from your first post in this thread, I've been frustrated with your comments; they have come off extremely selfish, imho.

Perhaps Indycar could've done better, but judging mother nature, dealing with tv contracts, track availability, their own schedule, etc., they made a decision a decent enough time for me. Sorry it didn't work for you.

Well, you may find that selfish (I don't), but:
I wanted to see a race. There was rain, and probably it was not unexpected. So the race couldn't take place as planned. I agree on that, but there was just no communication at all. If the rain was forecast, they could have made plans way beforehand.
I didn't know what was going on, the commentators didn't know, the drivers didn't know. Could have been better.

Even today, when it started raining again, how long did it take to finally make a decision?
If you just look at Saturday, it was fairly clear it a restart wouldn't be happening again. It the track doesn't dry on Saturday, it probably won't on Sunday either.

Once that's clear, just tell everybody it's over for today. It's not a problem that the race rescheduling happens later, but at least keep everybody updated.

That didn't happen, and could have been and should have been better.
Not just for me, but especially for those at the race and those broadcasting the event.

You started your post with "I wanted", but I certainly appreciate your comments for others involved. Seriously.

I agree that communications could've been better. There was a square peg, round hole feeling about the day but there's many moving parts that I've never had to deal with, so I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, while you (and others) are not. That's fine. We'll get a race in August, if it stops raining and IndyCar can figure out how to plan it.

The remaining 177 laps will be run on August 27.

So watch this space.

A speedy recovery for Josef Newgarden.

Here's to a full and speedy recovery for Josef Newgarden. May he be alright completely and quickly.

On another note, oh, what a mess this Texas race has been: Two halted race days due to rain and an injured driver.

The replacement date at the end of August will most likely mean the remainder of the laps at Texas will have championship implications. Here's wishing them a good and safe race.

Have the #18 and the #21 been the only retirements or are there others who are not likely to start in the replacement event in August?

I think those are the only retirements and if I was making the rules, they are out this one and their finishing position is established. Will be interesting to see what they decide.

Sounds like a broken collar bone and fractured hand for Newgarden (some reports say shoulder). Depending on how bad the hand is, that would be the injury to be most concerned about when it comes to the return to racing.

Nasty incident that could have been worse. Hope the best for Josef.
