peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Richie Stanaway To VASC in 2018?

Same people arguing why Simona is such a good choice, arguing that stanaway is a good choice.

He might be a good choice, but so are half a dozen other guys out there and there is currently no room for them.

Bring the cash if you want a ride

How do you figure that?

WEC GTE = no driver aids
SC = no driver aids

WEC Aston Martin = front engine, rear transaxle
SC = front engine, rear transaxle

WEC = lots of power
SC = lots of power

Seems more similar than different?

The best place to learn is in the main series -- in a season of Super2 they don't do enough kms. Especially for a driver of the calibre of a GP2 race winner.

Remember this car and driver, who debuted in the main game instead of doing three seasons of development series?

So many people quick to assume Stanaway will be the next Besnard. Besnard also did only six races in Super2, before debuting in the Caltex Falcon on the promise of potential talent.

If Stanaway is merely the next Besnard, he will gradually drop down to less competitive teams before leaving the sport -- that simple. Heck, matching Besnard's solid six year career in the main game would still be more than respectable!

The era when Ambrose debuted was so different to now you just can't even compare it. pre-Blueprint car, much bigger differences between cars, far less restrictions on testing.

Exactly, SVG and Courtney also took a long time to get up to speed. Now they are series champions!

As Waters shows, the main game is the place to race. The Super2 series is insufficient because they don't do enough kms to develop skills at a sufficient race.

One season in main game, is far more valuable than three seasons of Super2. Just look at the relative progression of Waters or Winterbottom who did Super2, and were still mediocre until they racked up another season and a half of main game. Which basically matches the drivers like Whincup or van Gisbergen who debutted directly into the main game, and took a season and a half to stop being mediocre. So no real benefit of Super2 seems to be evident.

A driver of Stanaway's credentials Internationally would be crazy to waste a year in the Development Series if the chance was there to race in the main series.

Any driver would be crazy to not go to the main series if the chance was there. DVS/Super 2 whatever they are calling it this week is a good support series, it's hardly proven much of a 'proving ground' in the last 18 seasons though

Stanaway has experience doing competitive lap after lap against the likes Bruni, Fisichella, Bird, Westbrook, Magnussen, Garcia, Estre, Lietz, and other factory pilots for up to 4 hour stints. They may not be known to you or some other V8SC-only followers, but they are about as elite as it gets for competition in a specific class of motorsport.

Of course GT endurance racing is a bit different than touring cars, he would have some learning to do about the rougher touring car style of racing and such. That being said, he figured out how to compete with high level drivers in other series, so with his experience in competitive categories and in factory teams racing against other factory teams and what appears to be an aptitude for these cars, it isn't unreasonable to think that he is far more qualified than most to drop into a full time role.

The Level in Super2 is low, so surely main game is a better place for drivers to have a benchmark of how well they need to perform?

Driving for years winning Super2, like Jacobsen, isn't necessarily going to develop talent at the rate of racing in main game. Main game is where they need to be to get a real idea, surely?

It's all very well to win lots of races in Super2, (or in Aus GT or in Carrera Cup) but surely that does little to develop talent (perhaps some racecraft can be learnt for the less experienced drivers)? Being in the fierce competition of the actual Supercars series is surely the best way to improve Supercars skill?

Plus trying to get a seat in the main game is beyond cut throat. The main reason why I never pursued a drive in the main Championship compared to Super 2 and Kumho.

Stanaway is supremely talented and could be anything. Super2 would be a complete waste of time. I for one look forward to seeing him on the main game grid next season.

Sure RS doing the rest of Super2 would be great, budget permitting!

However, running in Super2 instead of doing 3 times the mileage per season in a main game with better competition to race against, seems like a waste of time.

Super2 is there for people out of karts, out of Formula Ford, out of Improved Production, V8 Ute racing or to a lesser extent for privateer/gentleman racers; so they can do miles and race without the pressure or costs of the Supercars series... It's not there for seasoned professionals of international motorsport.

Budget permitting, the lesser experienced Super2 drivers should probably be doing both Super2 and Kumho series (and heck, NZV8 too if budget permits), as Super2 is probably not enough seat time.

He has done his development already.
Agree - he's better off in the deep end and developing himself against the quality teams there. If he went into Super2 & won everything there, he might be 5% at most better than he is now in a V8.

Far better to just get into the deep end of the pool - not saying he'll dominate or anything like that but it's where he and the team will benefit most.

Was probably the doppelganger. Agree with most, everyone in the series complains about testing ability (or lack of), and there is no substitute for seat time. He will learn much more in the maingame. Waters was chucked in and it was well known he was there to develop, not set the world on fire in Round 1. Now he is coming on in leaps and bounds, far better than any Kelly Bros Reality show would allow. Give Stanaway time, say 3 year contract, let him learn in year 1 perhaps in alluded to satellite team, grow in year 2 back in the mothership, challenge for the title in year 3, as long as they give him a decent car of course

Very interesting to me how SvG like his driving style is, very taily and loose.

Be interesting to see how he keeps the tyres if its dry tomorrow.

Stanaway was by far the fastest of all the Kiwis that have been in GP2 in recent years.
Just chuck him in a decent car a let him go,he don't need no learning.
