Surely that would constitute a BTCC style ballast penalty ?

That E type clutch plate is a winner. I think we will keep it in the car.

Sure, a very happy day! For those who can't afford or dont want to enter LMC grids, you still have the choice of a support race. Like Jaguar Classic Challenge. I'm pushing JM to enter both but it's not that simple. Wheels, tires and suspension settings are different if my understanding is good.

Most of 356 books have list of manufacturing numbers.
Pre A had engine sizes up to 1600 cc but the larger 1600 was only in 55 and 56.
Unfortunately they did not race the 1600 cc cars at Le Mans Pre 1956 although LMC let you run them with HTPs up to the 2018 edition.
Think there were some problems with capacities in Grid 2 last time around so they have reduced the acceptance to 1500 cc only and with new HTP rules not one cc more.
We are aware that people used engines up to 1720 cc which was pretty stupid as Peter Auto check capacities.
Another reason maybe,is that the 356 cleaned up the handicap every time at both LMC and Tour Auto

From memory the so called eligibility list has always shown a very limited selection of 356s for the last couple of LMC editions....yet we know that 1600 356s have been selected, as we were one of the lucky ones to run in plateau 3.

JR is right though that last time they were cracking down on the Plateau 2 cars to check they were running 1500 lumps.

All the P3 cars were legitimately able to run 1600 lumps.

Thanks Gents. All seems simple enough. For Porsche, as the example, an organised bunch who documented progress, and progressed accordingly. As opposed to many others, who were, shall we say, a little grey.

I've finished the Talbot book, appendix aside! So I'll be looking for new 'car porn' soon. Having spent the day today with a truck (DB5) something lightweight will be welcome, although I'm not assuming the books weights are aligned to the cars!

We did our best to neutralise any index advantage. I even stopped for a fag in the Porsche curves to make a game of it.

The Irish in me crept out.

To give people an idea of 356 speed
Will S in a proper legal car can break 5 30 as did Gareth Burnett in 1600 Pre A. Never understood some of others running oversize engines and being considerably slower!

Will’s is one of the few A Speedsters with push rod engine.
In my opinion one of the best 356’s along with Carrera 2 GS/GT

bigger engines are generally less efficient . . . . . and heavier!

but they more often than not make more torque, so easier to drive.

Four drums, three hard braking areas and a brave at wheel! All the rest is pedal to the metal!

The push rod engines are the same engine just different capacities.
That’s why it was easy to have 1720 if they were not checked.
The pre 60 cars were all drum brakes apart from the odd car , not production , that had Porsche discs on front.
That has only come to light in past couple of years

Got the Porsche annular on my 356 90 GT
Kind of a hybrid that was expensive to produce so reverted to Girling discs on C type cars
