I partly wondered if it was going to be Stohl’s Hiper being used for a demo or the like. Although I’m not sure if he’s still got it or if they’ve done much with it.

If they add 2 Hansens and a Bakkerud to that line up then I’ll be a lot more interested in this season.

Well we're halfway there now:

Hansen and Pucher partnered up.

Hansens now confirmed with 208s in a partnership with MJP. Interesting that Pucher is effectively making the rival to his championship more watchable but I guess that was part of the deal from Hansen.

Just waiting on Bakkerud now, I’d be surprised if something doesn’t come out of the woodwork.

I really thought Hansen would be there as a family team with Peugeots but without Peugeot backing or semi back (like in the Citroën era). You would think the could run a 2 or maybe 3 car team on their own? Does Pucher bring on a 2 car team also and will it be a technical partnership for development?

As said that's a very interesting move from Pucher, certainly does make he seem quite genuine when he states he is interesting in promoting all rallycross.

I wonder if the Hansen MJP cars are the Peugeot Sport cars from last year?

I really hope they keep electrification out for a long period. I am sure Rallycross goes there eventually, but Rallycross used to be about buying a car and modify that, not a playfield for manufacturers and therefore a technology battlefield.

Saw on the Autosport article that they're the same spec as the first part of the season, not the evolution that they finished the year with.

I've been to sleep since then, so my memory not the best, but I seem to remember that it was a quick car but they seemed to get shuffled out and suffer a few problems so never really got the results...other than Loeb winning of course

I was actually hoping that Hansen would have to run with pre-2018 specification cars as, in my personal opinion, the Peugeot Sport 208 was the quickest car out there last year (it just didn't seem consistent).

The pre "evolution" version actually seemed a better car, though that is perhaps an unfair appraisal as the latter car did seem to behave itself towards the end of the season.

I must admit I was expecting Peugeot to dominate once the upgraded car came into use, as the earlier car seemed bloody rapid.

If I remember correctly the car they used before switching had an Oreca engine while the new version had an in-house Peugeot Sport engine.

I think their evolution was the better car but they didn't make as big a step forward as Audi and VW did, so they seemed to be pegged back. On the basis of last year it would seem that Hansens are going to be the ones to beat, but I don't think they'll walk away with it. Szabo, Timur, Gronholm and Baumanis are all quick driver/car combinations. I still expect Timmy and Kevin to be battling for the title, but I think we'll have much more variety in terms of race winners this year.

They will compete together in a new Monster Energy team and Bakkerud will pilot the Audi he drove last year. Bakkerud is still trying to finalise his budget for the rest of the season and apparently he almost didn't make the deadline for entering.

They've managed to pull out a half way respectable line up in the end. I had a feeling that today would be a flurry of announcements, can't say that I was expecting Rokas or Liam though (as my posts above will confirm, I got it wrong). Will be interesting to see who comes on board with Stard for the last permanent seat.

There are going to be some sparks with the Hansens, Doran and Bakkerud for sure, none of them are shy about trading paint. Really glad that Andreas is back and I think that Monster sponsorship suits him better than Red Bull, never got the feeling that he felt completely comfortable with the serious style at Audi.

This has actually got me reasonably interested in the season again, I still don't like the idea of some tracks but I'm quietly hopeful that we'll see some more racing this year.

I wonder how long they can sustain either of these engines as Peugeot doesn't make 2 liter engines anymore..

Agreed. The entry list looks really promising, it's just the circuits they are racing on that I am not sure about.

As long as the engine is of the same marque as the car (unless you are using a custom engine) you can use whatever engine you want, it doesn't have to be in production. The five-cylinder used by Walfridson in the Clio for example was based on a bloc from the 80's.

I think you not put in the right words here. There are more full time season entries and I think the quality of the drivers is not much lower than last year.

Yes, some "big" name full time entries from last year are missing: Ekstrom, Loeb, Kristofferson, Solberg, Eriksson, Larsson.

But hey, some young guns we get in place for that, like Szabo, De Ridder, Raymond, Baciuska and got some guys returning full time with Marklund, Doran and Scheider.

So, it's like a few years ago again.

Other than the events cost more, on awful tracks like car parks with crap supports.

Guess you goons will all be spending your hard earned on lining the pockets of the company who did this?

I won’t, but if others want to that’s their choice. Who’s the real goon though, those spending time on a sport they like, or those spending time on a sport they don’t like?
