JNWRF01 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Formula 4 2009 Dates

Formual 4 2009 Dates (as per 750MC website)
Apr 13th - double header - Castle Coombe
Apr 25th - single header - Brands Hatch
Jun 6/7th - double header - Anglesey
Jun 21st - double header - Brands Hatch
July 11th - double header - Cadwell Park
Aug 23rd - single header - Silverstone
Sep 5th - double header - Oulton Park
Sep 20th - double header - Donnington Park

All double header rounds to feature reversed grids for the top 8 in race 2.
Exclusive F4 only tests to be arranged for the BH, Anglesey, Cadwell, Silverstone and Oulton Park meetings - usually on the Friday afternoon.
Garages - where applicable - at all meetings.
Looks a very good split of decent tracks/single day events/double headers.

Any idea on who is doing it yet?? Any 8v FRenault drivers making the shift across??

I would guess it is a little too early to tell. Most of last years Championship will be back with about 4 new faces that I know of. But until registration opens it is anyones guess.

On paper Jez's VD which I believe is for sale for the right money but 97/98/99 Tatuus FR 8V might turn out to be quicker this year....certainly cheaper.

Can do a season for less than £10K run the car yourself second hand tyres no crashes etc

But if you want to run with a team new tyres every race and lots of testing could more than triple that I guess.

Speak to Jez (JNWRF01) and Chris (Redracer77) sure they will PM you!

Or PM me for advice as I have nothing to sell

If you spent £65k in F4 you are mad. Running with a team expect to pay £25k to £35k with testing all in.

Call Edginton Racing - 01460 221144 or maybe Peter Allen would run you in his?

Single header a Brands. Thats a long way for some people to go for one race. Plus its not my favourite track either!!!!

Rest of the season looks really good though. Great mix of tracks.

Crikey, you could probably do 2 seasons of both F4 and Monoposto for that including testing and buying a decent car! And I would probably do 5 seasons in a Vauxhall Lotus!

Derek Bond has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
For 65k you could do FPA and get some real media exposure or for less you could do a season of BRSCC F3 and drive the best single seaters available at club level. If you wanted a pro season you could talk to F Ford teams or maybe some FR teams. With the credit crunch some teams might be offering drives cheaper than in the past. Call John Booth at Manor M/sport, all he can do is say NO.

John Booth hasn't/doesn't run FRenaults (and hasn't for a few years).... Tony Shaw is your man...but even then you are £100k short. FPA - I think you'll need more cash - after insurance and VAT...

What would be needed to convert a Mono spec F3 to run in Formula 4?

Not sure on teh gearbox issue - There is a Dallara (I think a mid 90s one) in F4 - was built by Mark Bailey I believe....he will know the deets. Certainly the FRens have 5 sp 'boxes

Redracer and JNWRF01 are very experienced in F4, the latter winning the championship this year, i believe, and both have extremely well engineered and presented cars - If they say that it can be done with a team for £25-30K a year, inc testing, then it can, and there are plenty more people who are spending way less than that and do not have engines or wings fall apart.

If I remember rightly you can run a 5 speed box but you need to block off the 5th gear. This is what Chris Kite did in his dallara.

You would also need to down grade your webers to 40's rather than the 48's in Mono other than that you are ready to go.

You also have to make sure you have the championship spec Kent cams in place.

One of the things that F4 and Mono 2000 need to work on is similar engine regs. There are so many races that I fancied doing but didnt see the point in racing the Mono spec cars and I guess that would be the same for Mono guys. It would make sence in the future if the pool of cars was bigger as it would help both championships

This is what you should spend to do it properly.

Tyres (1 set a meeting) £6k
Entries and test fees £6k
Consumables (I allowed £300ish a weekend on average) £4k
Transport £2000
Labour £8k
Premises £2k
Engine/dampes/G'Box/Logger rebuids £3k

You need to prob replace the floor/front wings halfway thro season - so allow £1k. Add in a £5k damage fund is prob prudent

I get that £32k to it properly - with a few pre-season tests and a test per race. Obv this assumes you own your own car. I think Absolute/Edington/Barry Pomfret would prob tack on a few more ££s for a rental deal. If you are quick - I may rent you my car !

Just FYI - I did the season on 4 sets of tyres (6 test days and 14 races) - so you can do it for a lot less if you want to.

To throw a spanner in to the works here - for £65k you could do a season in British formula ford (scholarship), BRSCC F3, National Formula Ford etc. etc. and on that money a 'reasonable' driver should be able to get top 3 in the championship. Personally - I'd rather do that than F4. Not intentionally knocking F4, I would just consider these to be more competitive championships.
