New Super Speedway In New Jersey
I heard the story on my local news broadcast yesterday, that a new "super speedway" is being planned for Linden, New Jersey. They say it will be a NASCAR circuit,(bad news) and it will seat 100,000 people. Not much else in the way of details were given, except approval for the track look very good.
The Newman-Hass Team will be the major investors,(good news) which brings up my question, do you think this will be a natural fit for CART racing? |

It's a big market, no question about that!

For those who don't know, Linden's as close to being right in the Big Apple as you could hope for.
This is something that's been desperatly needed for decades. If Paul and Carl can steer through the political opposition they're sure to face, this would be fantastic! Especially if the track has good rail access! Here's hoping a drag strip and road course figure somehow into the plans. I'd love to see the proposal! I'll have to keep an eye on Alan Wilson's website, he'll probably get the job. |

Great news! Fits the CART venue profile requirements to a tee. Clearly CART would be racing there too. Notice Mario's involved in this.

A little more info here!
http://www.thedailyjournal.com/news/...ws/165753.html Note that it's a former landfill/industrial site on the Arthur Kill, near the Jersey turnpike. Hmm... Didn't someone already mention that as a possible site for a race track? http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...051#post521051 Makes ya think, doesn't it? |

I hope they can get past the political gridlock thats sure to come in a reasonable amount of time. This tri-state area is well known for its powerful no build/no growth, not in my backyard coalitions and groups. They are experts at holding up major projects no matter how good they are.
Hopefully, the popularity and momentum NASCAR has right now will get this thing built, and then all types of racing can come and benefit. This area, and the whole North East for that matter, have been starving for a major racing venue for along time. Let's hope its time has come. |

According to one of Lee's articles, it'll be .92 miles, not a superspeedway.

Yeah, it'll be a track more akin to Nazareth, Phoenix, or Darlington.
Politics in that area are not condusive to the project, very true. But they've got a couple left-wing heavyweights in Carville and Newmann! I mean, could the track make Linden any _worse_? All the rubber and gasoline'll certainly improve the smell! |

Your right about Linden, NJ. It really is an industial wasteland with all the gas, oil, and chemical refineries located there. Which makes me wonder, could it be a "superfund" site, you know, to polluted to build on? And what about the wiseguys buried there, Tony Soprano might have something to say about digging the place up, ya know what I'm sayin, forget about it!
And James Carville, how did he get involved? God I hate that man! |

Superfund status could actually be a boon, with Bush's fund... Making taxpayers clean up the site instead of the former owners. But if they're looking at the same site I looked at, then there's at least some foliage growing there, so it's an encouraging sign that the sight isn't totally, y'know, dead. They may well find Jimmy Hoffa if they start digging, though. Like I said, if they're looking at the same site, there's room there for a roval with good road course both in the infield and outside. |

Its about time a circuit was introduced in the New York metro area. As far as a drag strip goes, how would this effest Englishtown, a historic circuit for the NHRA in New Jersey.

Dunno KC. It could provide more opportunities for both tracks, but more than likely would hurt one or the other.
So far the oval's all that's been discussed, though. |

I'd love to see a track built in that market. With Mario and Paul behind it, it would make sense that it would host Champ Car events and should pull good attendance numbers. It doesn't have to be a 2.5 mile super speedway, but I still will miss the 500 mile races after Fontana drops out. 0.92 miles seems a bit short to me. I'd like to see it at about 1.25 miles. Hopefully this track won't end up under ISC control.

I don't think even ISC has the money to get Mario and Paul to part with their principals.
Y'know what else this'd mean? CART could go there, but keep the IRL locked out! Muwahahahaha!!!!! |

.92 miles is fine. Just as long as it isn't one of those cookie cutter Charlotte-Atlanta-Texas ovals. How about a Disney Speedway clone?

No please, not a WDW Speedway clone. We don't want anyone to die!

I thought that they were going to build a track similar to Bristol? Or was that a Donald Trump thing?

That track was dangerous. A lot of drivers were injured when they crashed and slid headlong into the wall, mainly because turn 1 was so tight after such a long straight-away.

Just make a bigger richmond or a smaller darlington, with the Rock's Surface.then we'll see some short track racing.
don't know about Cart thought, seems like the track would be a bullring.might be good! |
