I'll be doing my first ever Hot Hatch championship race on Saturday the 21st of April at Oulton Park in Cheshire. This will hopefully be the first competitive start for the MG Maestro in over a year.

I'm really nervous about this one Normally I don't get nervous until the green flag lap, but in this case i'm worried about the car's reliability, and the fact that I'm going to be in a field of considerably faster cars, with more experienced drivers..

But I'm still going to do it.. After all, I just splashed £300 on new tyres!

I'll also be there on the Friday before to do some testing on the Island circuit..(20th)

So - anyone free that weekend? Want to come and watch me make a fool of myself in Cheshire? I need all the support I can get for this one..

How does the saying go, Chris? "Life's too short" Going for it and doing your best is all you can do.

And on that note, I'll be told off for not attending. Just checking a website for trackdates that weekend....... Yep. That's a definite!

Have you got a list of what cars are driving that weekend? I seem to be lacking information on that one.

Sorry Chris - double booked If i'm not working, i've already agreed to join TimD at Silverstone... we're really gonna have to start scheduling motorsport through the week... there's just too damned much of it!!

I presume from the fact that it's so close to your home turf that you'll have an army of family and friends on site to cheer you on, so i'm sure you'll not miss me though

As for you whining about your nerves, just remember what a good practice session it'll be for when you return the following week with the min...

I knew Tim had said about Silverstone for that weekend, but hadn't realised it was on the Saturday. Looks like I'll be at Silverstone bloke but hope you have fun at Oulton
Can somebody get me organised and tell me where I'm going for the rest of the season please because I really haven't got a clue I'm just relying on the fact that somebody else will know

Arse! Forgot about Silverstone

Sadly, no. Just the usual suspects - Mrs Doyle from Father Ted, and my brother

Whining? Grr It will be good practice though, provided I get some track time

That's quite a handful Lorna. Are you sure you can cope with carrying round a camera and Maisie and Chris all day

Make that two fans! I'm sure the schoeymobile will make the 5 minute journey to the circuit - alternatively, I could get off my backside and walk if I was feeling in a particularly sadistic mood...

Anyway, I'll seeya there next Saturday chaps!

Excellent - come and see us in the paddock then. Look for a red Maestro (there'll only be one) - number 36

Bit of a testing report..

Got to Oulton a bit late - on my own , and missed the first of three sessions. Bugger. Next one was fast approaching so I unloaded the trailer hurriedly, and got ready to get on the circuit.. When I did get on the circuit I pootled around for a lap to figure out where the corners were, and then I put a bit of speed in.. Oulton isn't too bad for learning, since the slow corners are obviously slow, and the fast ones obviously fast..

Did about 15 laps in a session that seemed to go on for ages. Loads of Stock and Hot Hatches bustled past me like I wasn't there. I just learned how to drive the car. Odd little showers of rain made the track surface interesting..

Got back to the paddock and found a slight oil leak - nothing to worry about though. Also discovered that my rear tyres were almost flat (slow puncture)

Third session, decided I would brake a little later for the hairpin (Island). Missed brake pedal completely, and went for a little trip around the Shell Oils corner, at the request of the marshall, rather than turning around. Felt like a right plonker upon rejoining the real circuit, whereupon I was greeted by a red flag. Not for me though - two pugs had spun at Lodge, and buried themselves Russell Spence stylee - although they didn't clear the barriers

Cue session stop and more rain. This time it was terminal. Either they couldn't shift the silly pugs, or there was too much rain, and the session was halted - end of test day for us.

Back to paddock, to check the car over briefly, before chucking things in car and heading home. Should be fun tomorrow - bring your brolleys

Any idea of a time for the whole shebang kicking off Chris?

I'm looking to make an investment in some beauty sleep this evening (no sarky comments from anybody, please!), and therefore racing needs to be planned around my proposed lie-in! An afternoon start would be most agreeable, because at least I will look half-alive.

Cheers chap...

Best of luck for tomorrow!

Pete.

Well, I'm aiming on spending the morning chasiung the bank / sorting out getting the car into the garage (how nice of Vauxhall to do a safety recall) and other boring things that have been getting neglected to go motor racing instead, so hopefully I should be putting in an appearance at Oulton some time in the afternoon after I've finished that little lot.

Two posts from Schoey - whatever next!

As for timings, the Hot hatches qualify at 11:05 and they race at some time late in the afternoon - like 3 or 4pm. It should be fairly relaxed day..
