What should CART do re engines?

Clearly a decision should have been taken earlier as to the long-term engine route, and has only been taken now due to Toyota rushing them. But what should they use?

KEEP THE CURRENT REGS!

Formula One ruined the best work it had ever done by going to the stupid formula engines they have now (among other things of course.) The turbo era of F1 was its greatest era and if this inconceivable change sticks, we will look back at Champ Cars the same way - "This is the day they ruined the series."

KEEP THE CURRENT REGS.

Keep the current regs, don't let Toyota dictate the rules.

Turbos are different and that is what CART needs, to be different... It is already acknowledged as the better series by many so leave it that way.

And if they kept the current regs, who will build the engines? Ford and Honda can't do it by themselves.

Well Toyota can't do it by themselves either...and given the choices...I'd rather keep Honda and Ford...

I know I will upset some American fans by saying this, but I couldn't care less whether the Indy 500 was run or not. The races are generally long and boring and do not provide any of the action of Michigan or Fontana.

Cart has an amazing product right now. I would even call it the best in motorsport. Even if I personally fall asleep during the oval races, it is still a great product. So don't change a thing!

Better to have 2 suppliers than 1 or 0 suppliers. Couldnt Judd or Hart build a customer engine?

Champ cars should not get into the habit of letting their suppliers dictate to them. This makes them look weak and soon they will be destroyed by squabbling suppliers whom they cannot control. Do what Don Panoz did. Make the suppliers and the tracks come to Champ Cars, not the other way around.

"Better to have 2 suppliers than 1 or 0 suppliers. Couldnt Judd or Hart build a customer engine?"

Companies like Judd and Hart are worth talking too, and cetainly Mugen who run customer Honda engines which are close to the new regs being discussed in oher forms of racing. But the fact is that 2 suppliers can not supply all the teams. The demise of the strong PPI CART squad this year showed that 3 suppliers can't support all the potential entries. My personal feeling is that by 2004 otehr companies might be able to ready new engines. The exact current IRL spec could make a good interim option, and give Tony George a chance to discuss combining the two championships, put the ball in his court. Sad though it is, the current engine regs can't feasible continue, and CART has been left counting the cost of not taking its decision soon enough.
