Burning Question

Howdy Folks

I have a question about burning stuff onto CD's

I have an avi that is about 680 MB and Ive been trying to put it on a CD-RW disk that is alledgedly 700 MB but when i go to burn it there is not enough disk apce ???

Ive been burning music for years but havent really done alot of movies or film clips.

so am I missing something along the way here or is 700 MB just not a true figure on a CD ???

any help would be appreciated

My guess is that it's not in fact 680 megs but somewhat more. When you go the avi file properties it should give two files sizes. Check what 'size on disk' is.

Should size on disk matter? AFAIK that's only there because of your HD's cluster size, its how much it takes up on HD, as opposed to 'File Size' which is the actual size

Although it is addressing the symptom rather than the source, have you tried over-burning as a temporary solution (if it is anything urgent)?

I doubt you'll get 680 on a 700 disk. When I used to burn to CDs I used to limit myself to about 650 meg. If its a reasonable quality, you're better off conveting to DVD (with something like the excellent WinAVI video converter) and burning a DVD.

wow i'd forgotten about this thread.

thanks for the responses guys but I simply ended up putting it on DVD instead

the problem I think was that yes the file was 680MB but was about 1 hr 45 mins long.

normal disks can only hold about 80mins of footage so Im guessing the length of the clip is more important than megabytes in this case ???
