With the ridiculously wide circuits they race on these days, making the car track width a little wider wouldn't hurt the racing at all. In fact, I would much rather they race on narrower tracks, the passing is just too easy now, there is no "fight" at all, every pass is a freebie. And if Nelson Piquet can pass around the outside of turn 1 at Hungary in a 2200mm wide car, then I say there is nothing wrong with wider cars. They also look a hell of a lot nicer.

Width of track or cars really is irrelevant. There is the racing line, which is directly related to the width of the car, then there are the marbles. Very seldom are moves made off the racing line, and if they are, they are generally in the well trodden path where cars frequently take different lines, which again will be well within the track limits.

Speaking of track limits, that is more the area they should be looking at. Not necessarily with penalties, more with slippery white lines, patches of grass, gravel, harsh ripple strips or even armco.
