Slowly working through Saturdays. A tad damp for the Woodcote/Stirling Moss and HSCC Thundersports

One of the highlights of this years Classic was the huge and varied F2 grid, cracking races which reminded me of the Easter meetings at Thruxton back in the day.

Got to love a grid full of F2s with different chassis! And the Easter meeting at Thruxton on TV (BBC Grandstand) is one of my earliest motor racing memories, inc Gerry Marshall starring in one of the support races.

I used to have an Aquila (Shrike predecessor) and it was seriously unpleasant to drive in rain like that. The monocoque was only about two thirds the width of that curvey bodywork, and the undertrays just channelled cold water up into my lap.

Yuck!

The Shrike does look slightly bizarre when racing in the wet! A trifle unkindly, I heard the Caddy Le Monstre being compared to a boat when seen driving between the paddocks in pouring rain. Kudos to Derek for driving it to Silverstone for the meeting, and I reminded the individual that made the boat comment that Bugatti also utilised unusual bodywork at Le Mans.....

It was great to meet you, and glad you enjoyed the event! The dry Sunday race was unexpected by many and so a bit of a bonus.

Please keep us informed of any future outings back home in your other lovely cars.....

I wish I had realised that you were at Donington for the MGCC meeting Bob.

I was there for a Hog Roast with some folks I know while you were out in the 3hr relay on Saturday night.

Oh well. Next time.

Mike if I could post up my facebook page you could see some of the cars I have restored.
Or go to page at Robert Ingram Historic Motorsport, a work in progress.
Delta, I think, is trying to persuade me to do the prelim races to maybe get an entry to the Le Mans Classic next year.
Very tempting

Ooh. Now that would be interesting.

I've never been to the Classic but did visit the 24hr in, iirc, 1974 or 1975 albeit as a purveyor of nicnaks and T-shirts and stuff.

I'll try to dig out the pic or two that I have when "doing" the Mulsanne straight in the wrong direction in Delta's truck.

Maybe team up with "Le Monstre" in some way?

Festival is the best thing in UK Historic racing!
Certain things get to you like car parking for teams but it’s not that big deal
Not impressed with the Pre War Race set up
Letting specials in with real cars does not work from an owners point of view and should have two podiums .The finish between the real cars where PBE beat Mr Birch on the line was really good
It’s not a deal breaker but a third of the cars were specials so they are needed for financial reasons.
The Pre 63 race is very good but needs more entrants.
We were pleased that our knackered old driver managed to win the 356 set to!
A great weekend for my second race meeting of year
Next and last one will be Spa!
Back to LMC next year.

Did look a bit odd having nearly lookalike GP cars in the same race as normal road cars. The speed difference was frightening.I don't mind having Specials such as the Bentley that won overall. From a spectators POV they look incredible and sound just as good.

Makes the Pre War grid one of the best.Variety you won't find anywhere else.
