Some significant news given by Soheil Ayari on Jérôme Mugnier's site about Henri Pescarolo's choices for Monza : the car ran with LM set-up, and with strict orders to "make it easy" for the race, not climbing the kerbs, and in a "Le Mans 24 hours" manner... the purpose was to prepare even better the car to LM race (few downforce, LM gearbox, etc...).
This wise strategy leads to a quite good result... you said 'experienced' ? |

Who noticed that the JMB Modena got the chequered flag only 50 seconds behind the Freisinger Porsche, after more than 5 hours, in the GT class ?

Last thing : 19 cars were classified (the GNM Saleen git the chequered flag, but 35 laps behind the Larbre 550), for 40 at the start.
The Diesel Taurus did not reach the... green starter flag ! The engine stopped on the grid and did not succeed to start again... |

they did not have the necessary parts to fix their gearbox so they didnt start, spinnaker was having problems with its paddle-shift gearbox so they pulled the car

Question:
In LMP2, the Tampolli was comfortably ahead (about 15 laps of so) over the Pilbeam when the leaders reached lap 156 or 157....The Pilbeam was behind the wall for a while with throttle problems that put them many laps down.... That was the stage of the race where they dropped out.... The Pilbeam not only finished the race, but ended up turning one more lap than the Tampolli....the Tampolli was not classified.... What happened to them??? Did the wreck in the rain??? Did they have a mechanical failure or engine/drive line problems??? Just wondering....they seemed to be motoring along at a smooth pace to keep the car intact and to secure their comfortable lead... If anyone can share any insight on this, I'd appreciate it... Thanks! |

Sorry Tim, I cannot remember, and checking the tape, I can see nothing about the car.
The coverage of the race was quite poor (not by MotorsTV, but by the Italian cameramen), and we had mainly tow Audis on the screen, with some bits of Zytechs and Pescarolo... almost nothing of the other cars... The cameramen failed dramaticaly in showing the main situations/dramas... And the only LMP2 we had on the screen was the C65... Too bad ! Hope better for the next race... |

SpeedChannel has the exact same problem here with their coverage of F1...
Thee will be a great battle about to occur, or in progress on the track only to have the producers switch cameras to Michael Schumacher turning lap afterlap by himself on the track with no one near him... David Hobbs really tee's off on them when that happens.... It is fristrating to watch that type of coverage...especially when it comes to sportscars....because of the various classes.... and it seems odd that they wouldn't have anything on the Tampolli when it was leading its class (by default, mind you) for most of the race... |

Mind that they switched some time from the track (where a great move was happening) to the pits, to show a dead car or a uninterresting refuelling... the french speakers stayed polite, but quite nervous...
What about Hindenaugh ? He should have been upset ! |

They really missed out on him not being able to trawl the paddock for bits of gossip. In fact they need to employ Joe Bradley to do that bit! |
