I thought it was a great event... there were certainly lots of battles up and down the field.
Jason Richards... must have found another gear with about 7 laps to go... win or bust... and while not winning, certainly blew off some more fancied opposition, and catching the leading HRT car... the sister car was on track for a similar result to last year too... Mr Jones and Mr Jones were very competitive! Great job for Mr Morris and Mr Slade to get in the 10 too... that thing was also a rocket at times... until some engine dramas slowed progress |

It won't exactly be great for racing... a Holden is almost guaranteed a win next year if today's results are a likely form guide into next year. |

I was doing my own "team management", and was watching Murphy and thinking, lap 137 or 138, well inside the fuel window for the last tank full, bring it in, get out near the front and fight for the win.
As each lap went by I kept thinking if a safety car comes out you are sunk, why aren't you pitting, and then it happened. Was saving a few seconds filling it up worth risking being out of the leading group of three or four with 20 odd laps to go? I'm very surprised with the wealth of experience in that team that nobody thought a safety car would happen. Anyway that's Bathurst isn't it, what could have been. Even so I do think that Skaife did a great job under the circumstances and really held up his end of the driving today. Felt a bit sorry for Bargs being scooped out of the way by a desperate Whincup, and although he copped some flack, I did feel for Frosty and Richo with their car going up in flames. Also to see the DJR cars just fall away was tough after a great lead up. Hard to fault Tander and Davison though, they drove very well, kept out of trouble, and basically made sure they kept the car in good shape and just drove it as hard as they could all day which ended up being enough to get the job done. |

So did any of the media discuss the badly overheating engine in #888??
Or watched the failure in Mr Coulthard's car? Quote:

He was probably quite relieved he didn't have to do the start himself. Pretty hard to smoke a clutch from the co-drivers chair. |

The reason they would leave the cars out as long as possible is to maximize the amount of time running on low fuel, as I'm sure you're aware. They were VERY VERY unlucky. |

shame for #51 and #33 what a fairytale resault if they had finished 1,2 in any order.
just got back from the mountain, great race, had absolutly everything that a typical Bathurst would throw at you. i have to say even taking my Holden hat off it's one of the best Bathursts in recent time IMO. |

Interesting to read the Autosport synopsis of the race (which tens of thousands the world over will no doubt read).
It certainly highlights the fact that Mr Tander was playing hard... I'm not sure too many Bathurst wins have been achieved quite so aggressively. Poor Ricko is probably wondering what he did to Garth to **** him off so much! Quote:
Don't get me wrong, the #2 deserved to win. But I can't shake the feeling that, if it was Todd rather than Rick in the #7 going up Mountain Straight after the restart, the HRT would now have a VE paperweight on their hands, rather than a Bathurst winner... |

The huge shifts in weather kept things interesting from one what could have been a mid race lull. Commendable runs by Skaife (extremely surprised) and the BOC lads. |

While in hindsight yes, they should have come in a lap sooner, the longer they ran, the lighter the load so the quicker they would have been. That would have been the reason for delaying it as long as possible.

So was Timmy Slade the rookie of the year at 7th? I can remember he ran in Fuji last year but can't think of if he made it to the 1000 prior to now?
If not, would that make Leanne and Wall a combined ROTY Awardees? |

Anyway, you can't undo what's done, but I did feel for Skaife and Murph because although they seem to be amongst the most disliked drivers out there, they both did a great job all day and deserved to at least be on the podium. A win would have been something special for both of them though and I'm sure some fans out there would have enjoyed that as well. |

I wondered whether anybody would pick up on this and the bad sportsmanship flag applied to #2 (though we didn't see anything of it, just a mention from Crompton). I'm happy for Will & Garth, they kept on keeping on through the dramas of the day, but a few things over the years have encouraged me to form the opinion that Garth's career is likely to end with him being unfolded from a smoking ruin one day, and that would be such a shame. However, I'm not surprised to see it skimmed over, like various stories, partly as there's not enough time to cover everybody's story on the box, along with being a bit incompatible with the flashy soundbites of the victory ceremony. |
