Maps
I'm looking for a good map of the Le Mans region. Proper fold out job, in the OS style.
Does anyone have a recommendation of publisher. Michelin? And also supplier for here in the UK. |

I've got a lot of Michelin 1:200,000 maps, which I've always found to be very good. Not, obviously, as detailed as OS 1:50,000 maps, but enough detail for my needs - I've found my way to some fairly isolated places with them. Michelin local maps are now 1:150,000, which should be even better.
You can buy online here: http://www.michelinonline.co.uk/trav...e-coverage.htm |

Thanks for all your suggestions and help. At some point this year I think we're going to tour the old 1906 GP circuit. We've done Reims and Rouen a few times and checked out Amiens and Dieppe, but never the first one. Although we've clear done some of the roads over the years.

Ah those links are great. I'm a total map geek and have just ordered an IGN one for three weeks' time.

Where are you coming from? If you are coming from the UK you will not be alone just follow the 100,00 others. Road signs in france are similar to the uk Le Mans is sign posted from Rouen not hard to follow them

But French roads are well signposted and, as others have said, you can follow cars obviously headed to the circuit from a long distance. You could always buy a map printed on paper. Before we learned the route by heart we all used one. |

For greater detail, as mentioned above, the French IGN series (roughly equivalent to British Ordnance Survey) are the best. Their 1:100000 scale are great for longer distances - five maps cover the route from Calais to Le Mans, then, once in Le Mans, the 1:25000 are invaluable; map 1719E covers the circuit and the city. These can be bought in the UK - try Stanfords of Long Acre in London, but every supermarket in France carries local maps. |

I've bought the 1:100000 IGN 126, which covers the all the old circuits including the 1906 one. It eeems no 1:25000 does, it's too big. Although if you could get a bespoke 1:25000 one centred on the circuit maybe? You can do this for OS maps.
Edit: I think you'd need six 1:25000 maps for the 1906 circuit. http://www.stanfords.co.uk/activitie...SI00000376.htm Last edited by Adam43; 5 Jun 2013 at 23:09. |

The OS maps are cool. I have a walking, folded one, plus a rolled one for the wall. both centred on our house.
I printed out a couple of bits of the inside of the circuit. I shall seek out the Map Of Silverstone lake, and a quiet route over to the N138. Purely to avoid crowds, you understand? |
