The Marshal's Prayer

It occurred to me over the past couple of weeks that we used to have a Marshal's Prayer but I can't remember what it is, so I thought I could write another one (with the help of a few of my friends and colleagues!)

So, here goes .....

Our Marshals which art at [INSERT NAME OF FIRST CORNER OF WHICHEVER CIRCUIT YOU ARE AT]
Hallowed be thy flags

Go on then, complete it!!!!

Actually, I've just thought - Stephen Green would be better at this than me - he's got better contacts with the Almighty!

I thought the prayer for the start was

For what (Name of first corner) is about to receive may the Lord make them truly thankful

The Marshals Prayer

We the willing
Led by the unknowing
Are doing the impossible
For the ungrateful
We have done so much
With so little
For so long
We are now qualified to do anything
With nothing
For next to nothing

From EPW, July '03

We Marshals, who art on post
Hallowed be our deeds
Our yellows come, our will be done
On track, as it is in training.
Give us this day,a decent race
and forgive us our rude gestures,
as we shall forgive those who fail to wave to us.
Lead us not into reporting and
deliver us from the stewards enquiry.
For ours are the green bits, the gravel traps and the armco
for ever,until curfew
Amen

That is brill. It should be on all marshal's posts. And at sign on.
Look forward to seeing you and your fellow BMW racers at Thruxton and Croix.

not to detract from johnw's excellent effort, superb as it is but, this is an open forum so I'm posting my posible version of the "Marshal's Prayer".

feel free to edit, just as I have, and eventually we will end up with the t'shirt that Sheila wants !!!

which we all will gladly order and wear !!

No Stu I don't want the t-shirt - I've already got mine designed - A WITCH ON A BROOMSTICK

Now all I've got to do is get the software to sort it out and I'm there!

I've just had another thought - if we can get a "prayer" that we all agree on, perhaps we could all recite it at the end of the briefing before we go on post, or perhaps get the Clerk to say it for us. The Yanks have a clergyperson (yes I do PC!) saying a prayer before they race, why shouldn't we have our own version?

Stu, just to put you right - Bob was DUTCH and the trophy is engraved in the correct language hence the word TROPHEE. (I think there may be an accent over one of the "E"s but I couldn't swear to that).

A real witch would be able to conjur one up with a deft twitch of her magic wand or the recitement of a spell.

Actually, that's what we really need - a marshals' spell to ward off evil red flags or Formula Fords.

If you guys are intent on calling on the help of the almighty, we had better protect ourselves with the following

We drivers, now mainly skint
Hallowed be our entries
Our time on track, we all want back
at Brands, like it was at Lydden
Give us this day, the good scrutineer
And forgive us our small misdemeanours
as we shall forgive those who manhandle us over the bank.
For ours is the diving, the weaving and the shunting
For this week at least
Amen
