Pretty sure you are right Richard, it is only a testing livery as the initial pics came with the team teasing on Twitter "a snake goes through different skins before it reveals its final look".
(I also love it and wish they would keep it.)

This is the 2020 Alpha Centauri car/livery compared to last year's Scuderia Toro Rosso car.

Apart from the Honda logo, you won't need a colour TV to see for Alphas! Reminds me of the overalls Max and Danny wore at Austin a couple of seasons ago

If the Alphatauri was a totally new team, I would say very well done. But for me, it's at the expense of the recentToro Rosso livery, which in my opinion are some of the best ever. So I hate to lose that, but there was zero chance they would keep anything like them given the rebranding.

Overall, it's a great monochrome look. It looks good from most angles. My only criticism is that the large logo on the engine cover brings to eyes to an ugly feature of these cars which is the super long wheelbase and huge engine covers.

Some of the gallery shots released show the it's not just matt Black and White, there is also hints of a deep purple/Blue that may show better in natural light rather than artificial studio lighting.

for me i think it is the best of the bunch...but as you point out, maybe i am only saying that because it is wholly new and therefore unique?

but not enough stickers lol... nothing on the front wing, area between sidepods and front tire also blank, and the engine cover looks a little sparse.

i knew they were down on sponsorship, and hopefully they find some more, but for now it, and in more ways then one, the car very much looks like an underfunded offering.

it's on track which is great so i am assuming it is their 2020 entry and not a 2019 mocked up for filming?

Thanks. After digging, I found some that show that and it looks very nice. I hope that color does come through vs. looking very black and white.

IMHO, it looks fine. Actually better than 2019. Will need to see car in motion to get a better feel for it. It does seem different from the trend of a single strong color with accents. I guess it's a base white with the ref from the sponsor and then the blue accent. It should stand out from the others? Sponsor name is very clear to see on the car.

Not sure I understand the "not a bad article" part. Is that more about not being overly negative toward Williams or something else? My take on that article is that it is written in a positive light, but also is probably exactly what Williams wants the world to hear. I do think it avoids hard topics. (Quotes from the above article)

Do they or do they not understand the 2019 car and why it was bad? I thought I read an older article that talked about them figuring out why the 2019 wasn't working. It may be my imagination, but I seem to remember the age old issue of poor correlation between CFD/Tunnel and on track aero performance? That quote to me is not exactly positive from the perspective of current understanding? Is that "this is where we are" or "this is where we hope to be" (with respect to correlation)

There has been a healthy development rate in the wind tunnel, and we have found reasonable improvements in the cooling efficiency.

Good news and maybe this speaks to aero correlation?

This can be both positive and negative. It seems to me that they have thrown the bulk of the team at evolving the old car. But at the expense of future development. Other teams will do both. At what point is Williams going to focus on 2021? How much will they develop the car during 2020? I suspect if the car is not embarrassingly bad, they may switch to 2021. If the car again is bad, then they may be forced to develop this car during 2020. And did they really bring that much development in 2019? Will they show an ability to develop the car in 2020 and bring parts to races?

In the end, I would assume most 2020 cars are evolutions of 2019 cars (especially if the 2019 cars proved good for the respective teams). But as I say above, I expect teams most teams have split development between 2020 and 2021?

I hope it goes well for Williams. I expect most here think they will close the gap, but by how much? I know they are aiming for mid-field, but might to just be more competitive at the very back? Just hope to score more than a single lucky point that they did last year?

Their new sponsors are still working on their own 2020 branding so the stickers can't be printed at this time. It's very cutting edge stuff and it should be just the right look?
