It is important and legitimate to the suppliers and sponsors of ~$75+m of sponsorship and employer of ~400 full time people directly and many more indirectly by a permament motor racing infrastructure that exists, that has existed for many years, and shall exist for many more, in whatever forms it takes.

The V8SC test day is on the calendar, it isnt moving.

It shall display the new cars, the new drivers, the new sponsors.. in a series operating across the country, and to NZ, on 15 weekends of championship events.

I thought round 1 achieved all of the above?

I don't see what the issue is here, so a few blokes can't drive GTs for the weekend. The test day is something we never used to have, now we have it and all that happens is whinging about it.

I've been to the 12 hour and while it's a good event, I fail to see how this impacts V8 fans or the majority of drivers, it's different racing. Most people wouldn't be stuffed going to the 12hr even if the test wasn't on, arguing it should be on the telly.

For curiosity only it would have been interesting to have seen how many V8SC drivers would have participated ? Could have been 5 or could have been 10 ?
Hopefully in 2016 we can see our best local drivers mixing it with the Internationals best at the 12hr.

The internationals could always try their hand at the V8Supercar series, in the endurance races

It did to some degree, but this is something new. I would imagine they hope this test day will generate interest and promote the series prior to round 1.

People who are not interested in trying new things can ignore this test and tune into round 1 for their introduction, just like last year.

Those that do watch the test day will be a little more informed by the time round 1 comes around.

I don't think anyone is whinging about the Test Day as an idea.

The drivers missing out isn't even the crux of the issue

The only issue is the scheduling, considering the Bathurst 12hr was locked in to this date back in February.

Surely the issue is that the general media will more than likely go with the V8s to SMP, the main motorsport reporters for the papers will be with the V8s. The B12hr becomes and afterthought.

If the B12hr was on its own weekend, a paper might be more likely to pay attention to an international motor race in Bathurst and send it's main reporters there etc, and give it some room..... in TV land last year Ch9 sent one of their main reporters, Erin Molan, to the B12hr for all three days.... seeing as she was at the V8 Gala awards, one assumes she'll be at SMP come February.

Motorsport has a chance to rise together with the tide, yet some factions (and as mentioned earlier this thread seems to want to legitimise and support it) seem to want the wave to the closest island all to themselves....

A number of V8 media have been told they must collect their season passes at the Test Day which stops them going to the 12 Hour.

Exactly which is why this is another petty stunt by the clowns at V8SA.The test day has had nothing to do with the issuing of media passes in any other year.

so if you book you trips and rooms to see a 25 car shoot out, then enjoy.

Sorry guys, new new laptop, so my engrish wasnt the best, but still, if you want to waste time on the weekend thats yours too do, I dont need to ask for my hours of waste to be returned.

I used to like Hardie's Heroes and Tooheys Top Gun qualifying sessions at Bathurst, and the similar Dulux Dozen at Sandown

Hopefully the shootout has a decent cash prize attached so the drivers can have a serious go for some serious coin!!

At those events the shootouts mean something but a 25 car single running shootout that really means jack **** does nothing for me.

After about 5 cars it will be a struggle to maintain peoples attention.

That seems to be what the Saturday sessions are for.

Sunday has a warmup, a crowd grid walk to introduce the cars, teams & drivers to the world, and the top 25 shootout..

wonder if foxtel will show the whole shootout, cant imagine it will be riveting tv.

They did a whole of field shoot out at Ec in 2004 but drawn out of a hat. Was not overly awesome to watch

And that's the thing-there is no big reward, this ain't the top ten shootout at Bathurst for example. I'm sure there'll be good competition for bragging rights but at the end of the day it's all for nothing which is a shame as I like the idea of a shootout at the test day. I can't see people talking about it the next day like it was something significant.
