Certainly people I know at Renault didn’t think his 2019 or 2020 were that great.

I’m not sure they issued press releases saying that though, so I know some would dispute it.

The thing is that you have reported that Renault were not happy with his performance - 'they didn’t think they got the level of performance commensurate with what they paid for'.

The reality is that Renault were happy with the performance, but their issue was with his leadership. This has been reported extensively by others in the paddock such as Julien Billiotte and Joe Saward.

To be fair to RIC, I don't think he was a lone ranger in terms of leadership issues at Renault.

As for Saward, while i overall respect his input and he provides some dry witted insight, I think hes still salty that RB took RIC over JEV as was his preference and learned opinion. he lobbied pretty hard for it in his blog and has been looking to subtly vindicate his stance since.

Step 2: Horner lobby aggressively to to push forward the engine freeze by 1 year as red Bull cannot develop
Step 3: Throw kitchen sink at engine and design a masterpiece (kudos to Honda)
Step 4: Engine freeze - lock in advantage
Step 5: Return one year later as the name on the engine

Just a bit of fun from me and I am not saying anything dodgy took place - but is interesting how it all worked out: If RB start losing, will Honda retire their name from engine/car again?

Am I missing something? When has Honda been sore loosers? They have probably picked poor times to exit F1, but have done so with grace. They gave Brawn a sweetheart deal on that exit and also have been great partners and have continued to support RBR after this recent exit (if they really exited at all).

Hopefully they'll have a chat to someone at McLaren about gearing and all that before doing the runs - the McLaren was running out of gears about two-thirds down Conrod and needed more right height down off the top of the hill. With those things sorted, would be really special but either way, seeing an F1 car rip across the top of the hill is still one of the better things that I've personally ever seen.

I saw him in Zandvoort on his F3 debut, looked pretty decent so hopefully he adapts well - won't be around long in the Academy if he doesn't
