Historics- Love Em' or Hate Em'
Continuing on from the discussion in the SORF topic, heres a thread to talk about what you either love or hate about Historic Racing..
Historic Racing gives the young ones a chance to see what V8 Supercars were all about back in the 60's and 70's.. which I reckon was one of the best periods for V8 racing.. Can a career be made from Historics? Sure it can.. just ask Jose Fernandez..made it to V8 Supercars from Historics. So.. comment away! |

My Vote:
Love em, and not just historic touring cars ! To see the wonderful Sports and Racing cars from up to and more than 60 + years ago, in full to the brim fields is just a great day out. There are races within races, the paddock walk should be obligatory, and the characters who own, love & race these cars can certainly tell a story or two. Throw in the thundering F5000's (real V8Supercars) and the Group Nc; Nc, A & C touring cars and life doesn't get any better at a race track, ( with one's trousers on)..... Can you tell I'm a fan |

Love em, great to see these guys pushing almost priceless metal around the tracks.
Esp early 70's falcons, holdens and chryslers. can almost imagine being there when they raced in that era. |

love'em, the old Torana's though the tight stuff but the big Falcon 351 GT's and Camaro's getting it all back down the straight, and i just love seeing the boys put the old girls sideways through the corners and the sound of them is just sweet, deadset great racing, and like peckster i love them at the Mountain every year i get plenty of pics of the boys sideways around Griffins.
i miss the NC's at Bathurst with the XU1's now with the Biante series but i still love the big V8 Camaro's and Falcon's. i also love the Group A & C racing thats great. MCM last year was bloody awesome best time i've had at a race meeting mingling with the teams and drivers, getting up real close to the cars and the racing was fantastic. |

I am a big fan of the more recent Historics (late 60's and 70's), but only in the pure form, not the Biante series as they have allowed the old bangers to be highly modified from their original pure form.

^^Yeah, that. Historic racing isn't usually about the driver, its about the car and its history. You refer to the cars as ex-such and such, the current owners are just custodians of the cars who are passionate to keep them out for their enjoyment, and that of others. Any post-war historic will get me going, right up to the old GrpA and GrpC cars that are considered the 'young' cars amoungst the breed. F5000's are the first and the best V8 Supercars, they make everyone go weak at the knees simply knowing they are on the program.
For anyone who has not been to a HISTORIC race meeting, go to one, you will have the time of your life, either reliving the good old days, or wishing you were old enough to remember them. Mick |

I love them! We should celebrate our diverse motorsport history and the cars that competed back then. Its great to see people out there looking after these older racecars and taking them out on track showing off these wonderful parts of our motorsport history. Where's the passion, people??

An aside ... overheard a younger guy looking in the engine bay of the Bob Jane Camaro, telling his mate it was a great car but said he'd chuck out the (ZL1) motor & put in a Haddad motor !!!! |

The only thing wrong with the series is the advertising (or lack thereof) permitted on the cars.
Historics are usually very expensive to run and maintain - try getting parts for some of the cars these days - yet they are restricted in allowing sponsors/advertisers to apper on the cars other than that originally on the car(s). |

Love em.
The Camaros, XYs, HKs, Escorts, these are all the cars that got me interested in the first place. It would be a big loss if these cars were not out for all to see....instead we not only get a chance to see them, we are watching them race and being thrown around the tracks. Could anyone not like that? Jim Richards has finally finished his latest entry, and I'm looking forward to seeing the big beast on track. |

Jim's Sprint looks good in the small photo in eNews, can't wait to see it in the monthly edition and of coarse on track.

Love em - with a passion. Great RACING (and they pass too!!!)
Not just the Tourers either - if you want a great day, get to the PI March meeting every year. Awesome. And the Tasman Revival meeting at EC was sensational too. |

I love historics! I think its awesome to see those fantastic cars racing, and not just being paraded around but actually pushed hard. I did say in the SORF thread that I didn't think it was aviable career path, at least it isn't here in NZ, but I seem to be wrong about that one. I didn't realise that Jose actually came from that series, I think its fantastic and earns the series a little more credability in my books.
Also, slightly off topic, I saw some of the Historics parading around at the Melbourne GP in 2007 and some of them were AMAZING! |

I cant get enough Historic stuff. One of my best memories was chasing a Lago Talbot recently, the images will be stuck in my memory forever. The diversity coming into A/C with the likes of Roddy Jag etc. make it more interesting than it was a few years back, but I cant get enough F5000 and P,Q,R Sports and Racing! Boy would I love to be Rob Sherrard.
