Speedvision on Saturday!!!!!
From CART.com.....
Championship Auto Racing Teams, Inc. (NYSE:MPH) will officially begin its new television partnership Saturday (January 12)with Fox's Speedvision as the cable network will air an hour-long special dedicated to the excitement of FedEx Championship Series. "CART - On the Edge of Your Seat," a 60-minute inside look at the FedEx Championship Series produced by CART, will air on Speedvision at 5 p.m. ET Saturday. The broadcast is scheduled to re-air Monday at 9 p.m. ET and again Monday, Feb. 18 at 10 p.m. ET. The special represents the network's first programming dedicated specifically to Champ Car racing since CART announced its new television agreement with the Fox Cable Networks Group and the CBS Television Network in mid-August. "CART - On the Edge of Your Seat," produced and assembled in December by Charlie Stark of CART Entertainment, will be hosted by veteran motorsports announcer Bob Varsha. The program will recap the exciting 2001 FedEx Championship Series campaign, one of the most competitive in CART's history. From the green flag in Monterrey, Mexico to the checkered flag in Fontana, California, the camera will focus on all the wheel-to-wheel action from the perspective of the fastest men in the world - the drivers. While there will be plenty of thrilling on-track action featured in "On the Edge of Your Seat," the special will focus on some of the excitement that takes place off the track as well. Viewers will get a chance to see their favorite drivers up close as the cameras take in a Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field with FedEx Championship Series career victory leader Michael Andretti; hit the bike trails with Christian Fittipaldi, Cristiano da Matta and Tony Kanaan; and go hiking with CART's only current driver/owner Adrian Fernandez. "On the Edge of Your Seat" will go on tour with the world's fastest band - RPM (Racing Powered Music), led by guitarist and 2001 series runner-up Kenny Brack as the band performs with some special guests in Toronto and Vancouver. The Speedvision exclusive will also examine what makes a CART event so special. From the celebrities that line the paddock to the track-side rock concerts and beach volleyball games, "On the Edge of Your Seat" will take a fast-paced look at what makes CART racing so much fun. The special will then take a closer look at CART's official "Ladder System" of driver development and will look ahead to the 2002 season, when the FedEx Championship Series debuts with its new television partners, Speedvision and CBS. Safety always comes first in Champ Car racing and this inside look at the world of CART wouldn't be complete without getting to know the men that make up the Simple Green CART Safety Team - widely recognized as the top safety unit in all of motorsports. Champ Car racing has a rich and storied history and the program will conclude by taking a look back at some of the legends of the sport like Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, and Al and Bobby Unser. |

I'd give the program 4 out of 5. The minus scores were for the girl (I don't know where they found her, but she was certainly not an addition to the team) and a little bit of a lack of focus. Otherwise I thought the hour was excellent! The teams were highlighted, the drivers were presented as people, the racing was shown without too much emphasis on the crashes, and all the positives of Champ Car racing were stressed: the turbos, the variety of tracks (the only series in the world that has so many different kinds of tracks and whose champion must demonstrate proficiency on all of them, not just on ovals), the diversity of drivers -- although a lot of emphasis was placed on the Americans -- and the number of winners in the field. I think this is a good sign that Speedvision plans to help the cause along despite their new emphasis on NASCAB.
Good for them and if you missed it tonight, tune in Monday at 9 and if you saw it tonight, tune in AGAIN on Monday! |
