Toni Elias...

was a great fighter in the 125's & 250's.... he is nowhere in moto gp after a cuppla years in the premier class - why???

carlos checa deserves to be in moto gp next year more so than elias - and that is just wrong

what is the elias future looking like

I think to be honest that Toni is just struggling on a second rate bike that he cant set up the way he wants to. It is much the same for Tamada as well remember, and also remember that the guy won two GP's!

I think the Hnda is a fickle bike to setup, you need plenty of experience and know how, look at Hayden starting to struggle now! All the good people are in Dani's garage at Repsol!

As for Toni, for me he has consistently struggled with injury in the big class, his career so far so closely mirris Melandri' s early GP days, inspiring speed one minute, then a big crash that reneders the poor lad half fit for a year!

I think he will find a berth somewhere, maybe at somewhere like Tech-3 again, where his talent may be allowed to blossom a little more on a bike he can ride and be allowed to change a bit more!

Interesting points chunder - Melandri was no more competitive in his first 2 seasons but flourished after getting the right ride. It's too soon to completely write Elias off, but he doesn't seem to have settled at Gresini.

I had been wondering about Elias. His start was bright but he has dropped off the radar, until the camera pans to show him on the floor with his bike!

Very odd. Perhaps it is just waiting for the right environment, but he hasn't looked clever at all.

Haha, I knew someone somewhere fromover there would drag out the Ant West special!

In the interview with Toni he is having the same problems mid corner with the bike he had with the Yamaha, they solved it at Tech-3 and he was able to ride well when he was fit, but there he was thrashing Xaus most weeks, at Gresini he is against Melandri who is a favoured son of Honda after winning races and stuff, so maybe they are not gonna be so concerned about Toni being quick there, despite the Fortuna connection.

I personally think he is a very quick guy but really needs the bike set up right, he cant seem to do much with a middle of the road set up

Alex K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Leon Haslam or Carlos Checa will sign with Gresini, depands on (Spanish) backing.

He could still be another Melandri - a lot of people wrote him off after his first 2 years.

If it comes down to Spanish backing between Checa and Haslam, I guess that means Checa.... someone like Lavilla would be better than Checa getting another chance.

Might not be anything to do with being SPanish as Fortuna are putting all their eggs in the Lorenzo basket and are pulling their del with Gresini next year apprently.
So unless Carlos can get money together he may not ride for the team next year, though he is hardly gonna be stuck for offers, he has been superb on the TEch3 bike, but also been up against an unfortunately rubbish team mate, so how do you compare!

For me Elias has been injured a lot and deserves a chance as Melandri did!

That could be crucial. If Hayden gets the title by four points, Honda should give Elias a third works HRC ride. lol

What a performance!

Elias was channelling an early Gary McCoy today. Awesome. All over the place, too.

Elias showed stonking pace in one of the first races of the season but it was hidden by an incident early on and so he was simply catching up from there on.

A heroic win anyway.

Definitely finish of the year. My head almost exploded when they showed the aerial shot of the run to the flag.

Great race by Elias but where has he been the rest of the season????

That was a ride purely for a contract next season.

Toni, mate, next year do that every weekend and you may go places!

Hang on a minute, he was pretty darn good at Jerez (apart from the moment he hit Vale).

I know that was fifteen rounds ago, but...

He has to pull his finger out for 2007, but then again who's to say he'll have a good ride next season?

Elias really seems to like Estoril, he won there twice in 250s (of three attempts) as well. In 125 he had one third place.

Unbelievable ride from Elias today - he always looked on the ragged edge, but managed to stay upright, unlike a certain countryman. That final lap was a real thriller.

He's had a bad season - some of it to blame on his injuries early on and also fitting into a new team + new bike.

When he got it hooked up (twice) he was the quickest thing on the track from start to finish. It's just a pity he can't qualify well - and he does often get into incidents. It's a shame because he's been coming on of late.

We need riders who can ride like that and be quick
