Commodore Coupe eligible for V8 Supercar ?

I meant to post these piccies a couple of weeks ago but have just moved so I didn't have the time.

Will the Coupe be eligible for V8 Supercar or does it say in the rules somewhere the cars have to be 4 door sedans ?

Cheers Buck.

I think there is a rule hidden in there somewhere Buckshot that the cars have to be 4 doors but im not sure about that.

I think the car bra thing was to just disguise some of the secret features or unfinished features of this proto type.

My boss uses a car bra on his VX for trips i nthe contry and swears buy it...to me they just seem like a waste of time and money.

Fairly certain the rules stipulate that it has to be a four door sedan. IIRC it has some stupid wording....and besides, introducing the coupe would simply root the PRC...especially now that they have a level playing field.

the PRC will be stuffed anyway when Holden and Ford release new models in 2 or 3 years which are totally different to the current cars, like the forthcoming VY Commodore.

A V8Supercar Monaro would look great though.

Maybe the project blueprint thing, turning them into a spec spaceframe chassis would have kicked in for the beggining of the new models?

Avesco sent us documentation on the required changes for the VY. Seen the Potential Shape of the car and other that a few front end changes we could change our VX anytime. due for release early 2002.

Here's something else which would look awesome on the race track. It's making an appearance at Bathurst this weekend - but only as a show car.

For those of you that didn't see last week's Auto Action it's a VU Ute built to current V8 Supercar spec.

This was built by Garry Rodgers motorsport over the last few months. Maybe if they had of concentrated on their race cars instead of this show pony they might have had some decent results !

Does anyone have a drawing or photo of the proposed VY Commodore ? I'm yet to see it.

Haven't Ford got an AU coupe on the way too?

Cars definitely have to be 4-door sedans under the current rules, but it would be nice to see the coupes on the track, maybe in GTP?

The AU coupe has been canned due to differences between Ford and the company I can't remember the name of that would do the conversion.

Yes I have seen one of the converted AU's done in Tenterfield NSW and they look great in the metal. They guy I spoke to who worked at the place said he would sell his for 50 - 70 grand.

It looks like they have tried to keep it looking as close to a 4 door as possible. I'm amazed, I was expecting a more "sporty" looking job done to finish it off .

Yeah that's all I meant AJ...it's boring, but it's not ugly...like AU ugly.

Holden'll stick a nice body kit on it and a rear wing and it'll be a classic !

I wish it looked more like a real Monaro...the least they could have done is given us a metal bumper bar!

Re- racing a coupe in V8s: I could see this being a major major pain for the teams. For starters, accessibility to another behind the B-pillar would be impared... I guess it could be overcome, but it would be a right royal pain at the race track to have to pull the seat out etc.

Also there is the problem of panel damage- It would be impossible to repair between races; you'd have to go back to the workshop and do a big cut and weld. This of course wouldn't be a problem if the drivers didn't smash into each other at every opportunity....

I'm not a Holden or Ford guy. In fact I'm not a huge fan of Commodore or Falcon. But I reckon it looks a treat.
