GT4 - Who's building it?
Recently there was the announcement that BMW Motorsport had homologated the M3 for the FIA GT4 championship. But does that also mean they are going to develop it? Because I've seen hints at both BMW Motorsport development as G&A development (the Belgian Squad who did the Z4), but no clear messages really. Does anybody know more about this?
On that same note, Paul van Splunteren's team is developing the Porsche 997 GT4, but now there are also newsitems popping up about Speedlover doing the same. Didn't FIA grant one team the right to develop an official GT4 car of a certain make/model? Or is it that anybody can develop the car, after which the FIA chooses the car that will be allowed in the championship? Last edited by Bramzel; 5 Jan 2009 at 19:38. |

(Only 2nd hand cars available) Nissan 350Z - RJN Motorsport Nissan 370Z - Car is planned according Nissan; Nismo, RJN distributing the car in Europe? Porsche 997 - Paul van Splunteren is developing a kit, but there's also the Speedlover story so it's not clear. |

1) Manufacturer's homologation 2) Exclusive tuner 3) Appointed tuner (non-exclusive) 4) Temporary homologation There is a nice presentation brochure at the official site, which outlines that and gives the status of each car: http://www.gt4cup.com/system/_download.php?key=48 Last edited by Satorian; 5 Jan 2009 at 21:07. |

I thought a different tuner, not Callaway, was making the Corvette C6 GT4.

I think the N24's are done by AM themselves, not Prodrive. They begin on the main production line and after a while they're split off and turned into racers at the factory.

http://blip.tv/file/1871033 So according this interview with Guido Kenis (G&A) they and BMW Motorsport have both built a M3 GT4. Not very smart from SRO to allow different "manufacturers" for the same car model. |

"Until very recently a stand-alone Special Projects team also assembled the GT4 spec. N24 at Gaydon, but with around 20 now complete, production has transferred to Aston Martin Racing’s facility at Prodrive, where the balance of the cars required for a new for 2008 Asian one make series are being built, these cars finished in all-over white livery before being shipped." |

Because it's a performance balanced series. If every teams builds it's own car SRO has to test all the cars.
Isn't the Solution F car a RJN GT4? |

One 350Z ran in the VdeV Endurance last year, but that could be the solution F car. RJN has some GT4 based 350Z running in the VLN series in Germany.

Says you can order a 350Z from either of them. What that means technically, I'm not sure, although RJN has been developping that car for years, ever since it was a GT2 in the British GT Championship, but Solution F has been developping that engine and using it everywhere, including the World Series by Renault, the Mégane Trophy and the Opel-bodied Touring Cup silhouettes. |
