Did Ertl ever run this car with a turbo Zakspeed engine or is it a myth?
Also does anyone know what became of both of these chassis - Im intrigued to know why they were both the basis for F1 test engine mules.
C9 was the mulletta that Henton described as the quickest thing he had ever driven when he tested it at Goodwood in late 80/early 81, unfortunately it didnt stop so well on F2 brakes and tyres.

C8 is the one I am interested in.

Drifty seems unable to understand irony; nor to remember the content of this thread.

I posted the information about Ertl and the F1 test car earlier in the thread. That's where you got it from Drifty.

I don't know why I bothered. It won't happen again.

Gentlemen, this is supposed to fun; let's not allow things to spoil it. Drifty, this is exactly the sort of thing I've been talking to you about. I suppose, at some stage, I'll have to edit some of this 'niggly' stuff out.

Back to topic, please, and should we have a separate thread for the Roman(s)?

Quite correct. Steve Wilkinson's excellent result log for the BMSA shows several meetings where Roman IV (Tony Marsh) and V (John Fellows) were both present. The simplest way to differentiate between the two is one has a Cosworth engine (IV) (originally Hart 2.8 followed by Judd CV then Cosworth) and the other always a Judd (V).

The other clue to the riddle of how many cars is as Drifty says Ray built three Tolemans from parts hence the Romans followed on as IV(4) and V(5).

It is IV that has now gone to Australia via Dermot and V that is at Tracksport, John Fellows' prep operation in Coventry.

Toleman TG-280 #6

Following up on these old posts re: Tolman 280s. I have TG-280 #6 ex DS - Stohr 1980 car. It was recently discovered in an LA warehouse where it had been sitting since 1984. It was a little dusty but it survived well. With some TLC (read money) it's going to go vintage racing very soon. Any old photos/info of this car would be appreciated.

Was this a Can-Am car in the early 1980s? Eddie Wachs had two TG280s for Can-Am and I believe the were both ex-DS.

Yes, this is one of the original cars (#3 & #6) Eddie Wachs brought over to run in the Can Am series. He sold it to a crazy LA car collector who had so many cars he lost track of what he had. It was buried and forgotten for close to thirty years in his warehouse. It is in orange livery as Wachs ran it in 1984, but being returned to Stohr's Orange Beta Tools 1980 livery. It's all most ready to go after a complete refurbishing.

Yes, the original Orange Wachs Can Am livery. It will change to Stohr's 1980 Orange Beta Tools livery.

We have recently been in touch with a man in Australia that has chassis No 3.

So an update on the original 9 cars from our perspective.

No 1 Not seen or been in contact, gentleman posting as RTH on the thread.

No 2 In our workshop together with one of the 3 continuation cars of Ray Rowan.

No 3 Located in Melbourne, Australia. Have had recent email exchange and pictures.

No 4 Driftwood sold it to Australia some years ago. Believed to be still with the buyer/collector.

No 5 Located in the UK and have been to visit and seen it in recent years.

No 6 With Norm Marshall as per his posting.

No 7 Believed to be in a Japanese museum. Advan colours. Can find pictures on the net.

Nos 8 & 9 As per other more recent postings uncertain.

TG87/1 was a continuation car with a 2.8 litre Hart engine built by Ray Rowan for David Render. Only ever used in hillclimbs, some evidence of this can be found by searching on www.resultsman.co.uk

It had full Toleman style bodywork with a plain red paint job.
