Openwheel should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Reynard and Lola: What's the difference ?

Macdaddy has talked about the lack of front downforce of the Reynard in an another post. He also told that with cooler air the problem is less important. Wich surprised me a lot because if you look at the two cars you can notice that the nose in the Reynard is very low.

I was just wondering if you know others big differences between the two cars ?

there is a frontal area difference, i think Raynards have more and the reynards make 400lbs less downforce than the Lola- the penske varient front wing helps a little more, i think haberfeld is using it, and it make more downforce when you turn the front wheels!

If i'm not wrong, after Reynards breakdown, Lola gave his customers a upgrade kit, which was impossible to have for reynard's teams, up to that tragic failure Reynards were as competitive as Lolas, if not more

since the reynards have less downforce they produce better racing. ever since the new lolas came in 02 the racing sucks. cars with low downforce produce better racing on road courses. if carts only going to have road courses, take the third element of the lola front wing, and make then have to front wings sticking out of the sides of the nose on the car instead of being one wing under the nose

Posted this in the other thread too:

“Since we got that Reynske wing at Road America, it really suits my driving style and we qualified well at both places. The guys did a great job in the pits and in the trailer today and I did my job."

Underbody design is a major factor here in terms of aerodynamics which is the biggest difference between the two. Some of the largest effects are to do with sensitivity to ride height changes or bumpy tracks.

I'm still curious if anyone has anymore info on how much the new/old Penske front wing is helping the Reynards.

I'm not sure about the Reynard, but Lola drinks champagne that tastes just like cherry cola.
