Serge should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Although not technically a winter project (I doubt it will be finished in 2012), I have made some progress with my Lotus Europa S1. The car is finally disassembled. There aren't that many metal parts on the car, but it seems those that were there were all rusted stuck. Now the fun part can begin, rebuilding everything!

There are some more pictures on my website for those who are interested.

Happy holidays everyone,

Serge

I know where there is a Europa, black in John Player colours, twin cam engine and one of the last off the assembly line, but after buying the Escort,Capri and Maser if I did venture after the Lotus the next step would definitely be the divorce court.

A couple of years ago there were two Lotus Europa Specials (in JPS colours, with the big valve TC engine and the 5-speed gearbox) for sale nearby, I don't know who bought them or where they've gone to, but they are certainly the quickest and most refined Europa's made.

Mine is chassis number 46/0002, according to the Europa registry the oldest survivor. Lotus says 0001 was the first actual Europa made (after the 5 prototypes, called P5) and that it was an English car used for promotional use. Mine (0002) was delivered in February 1967 for promotional use to West Side Cars in Amsterdam. 0003 was the first car that was meant to be sold to a customer, this car is still in Holland at the moment, being restored.

One (or maybe more) of the P5 prototypes were rebuilt into type 47 race cars. One of the other P5's was used by Colin Chapman as his daily driver for a while.

All the damaged panel work has been removed from the front of the Mustang & replacements sourced for less than $1,000! There is a slight twist in the right hand front frame rail which will need to be straightened on the jig, but it's doable.

Then we're doing a leak down test on the engine to see if all is well as it was pinking under load @ Daytona. Hopefully all should be ok.

I've sourced another Pre HE engine for the XJS as Ol Smokey was starting to foul spark plugs in a 20 min race. Hopefully it's as good as the last one.

Have decided to replace the damaged bonnet & boot on XJS with fibreglass & to put me & the car on a weight loss programme

Escort just needs one rear wheel bearing as we replaced one before the last outing & I reckon the other cant be far behind.

So winter projects a little more involved than last year!

Progress last winter was virtually non-existant but in the summer I got a roll cage put in and had it blasted and primered so that by November 2011 it looked like this

Here's my new winter project which is to move my wife's aviary from the side of the house to the back garden. When I wanted a new toy it went, "well you can't have it because you can't park it anywhere". Now she's bought something she said "move the aviary and you can extend the garage for your Jaguar" and mine can go at the front.

You're dealing with female logic Tim! ..... but we've had no news on the modifications to your wheelbarrow - is this a new project?

John, I wasn't going to mention the wheelbarrow as it's a replica of a 1965 Chillington and I need to find rubber handle grips so can apply for FIA papers.

Judging by the general state of FIA cars Tim,I think I would opt for modern plastic versions, far better grip.

Would it not be easier and quicker, to just put the cat in the aviary?

It would be easier and quicker to leave the door open but I'm not sure I'd wake up tomorrow morning.

not quite a winter project, but a waiting game, I've finally got another lock up in the pound at the bottom of the garden. Its the one on the opposite end to our house, its fully insulated with power, thats another 250sq ft to the storage facilities, which takes us well over 1000 in total

2 more and I'll have the whole row, then I can build a really good workshop . . . with a pitched roof I could have a scalextric LaSarthe with Mulsanne straight up there in the rafters

Thanks to Dave at DMG Autosport in Chippenham, the Kerbside Motorsport/Team Silver Arrows Racing With racewear.co.uk and Absolute Alignment 924 project is back on stream (you see now why I switched from a Midget, need a bigger car to get the team name on!).

Lowered the rear torsion bars today. Had to get agricultural with the size of hammer and drift, but as soon as they popped out Beardo weaved his magic and the car now looks like a racer

roll on the 360!

Following on from last years 'winter project' (see earlier in the thread)

we did get the Revis 500 together and made it to Goodwood where I promptly broke the new crank.

now on with this years winter project:

The Wilson GT a 1960's mid engined one off sports racer - anyone know anything about it?

This one will take a tad longer than the Revis as my 16 year old who is an engineering apprentise is a half owner and I'm expecting him to do alot of the work.
