Shame (but understandable) to see such a depleted F5000 grid.... a far cry from the 30 odd car F5000 grid we had in the sun at the Phillip Island Historic just a week before.

First, I like RS2000s, having owned 2 in period. Second, I was offered a very sad but genuine RS2 rally car, and spent a fortune bringing the shell back to life. A lot of original trim was missing so it made sense to keep it as a competition car, and as Gp1 was starting to attract interest, that was how I decided to build it. Third, I don’t chose cars to race because they are guaranteed to be front runners, but because I want to race them.

Correct, popular on the mainland, but because the BTCC regs suited the Capri, that’s where Ford put all their resources. BTW I’ve never seen a period pic of a Gp1 RS2 racing without the droop snoot. Maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough. The ‘flat front’ was a late Oz homologation and made sense for rallying as the plastic nose cone was very expensive! Also heavy....

I didn’t watch the race, but sounds like the conditions were against the powerful cars. Please don’t think I’m ‘dissing’ any particular car- that RS2 looks extremely well set up, obviously has ample horsepower, and is driven very well! If it makes the racing more exciting for spectators to have the smaller cars dicing with the big bangers, then GRCC will go for it......

Some nice dices in the Moss Trophy, and in my opinion the best looking E Type won......

Full marks as always for the camera positions, they really show historic cars at their best- drifting!

Very sorry to see Peter involved in the T1 incident. Sadly once he was on the grass he was a passenger, no chance of escape and route 1 to the scene.

Shame the race was so badly shortened, the Fowler/Wood/Skid battle was enjoyable, hopefully Peter is just a bit sore in the morning, physically and bank balance. Cars can be pieced together but people can't.

The Gp5 demos made it for me. My absolute favourite era.....

Edit- apart from the 320 laying a trail of oil round the circuit. You’d have thought the smoke and then spinning on own oil would have been an indication of something amiss!

One of those things sadly. In car you can see I was looking at a relatively clear track then it all went Pete Tong! Worst thing is I can't get it ready for Donington and I have to tell my tell co driver!

Unfortunately, the inclement weather meant that the "High Speed Demonstrations" were a little tame. It's very unfortunate that they felt the need to salt the circuit. Salt plays havoc with a magnesium gearbox casing - hence the depleted field in 1 Litre F3 (when the salt would have been pretty much at its worst) and the limited number of F5000s venturing out.

From trackside cameras looks like you were mid pack and just got squeezed, Peter. Certainly no chance of slowing down on grass today, as the repeat off by one of the Cortinas demonstrated in the last race. If you miss Donny, when’s the next outing?

Totally agree, Alan. Would certainly make me think. Re demos- The NASCAR car going off while doing donuts was amusing, but according to Marcus the fastest (unofficial) lap of the w/end was set by the ‘Fruit of the Loom’ blue 320 this afternoon. He was ‘on it’, as they say.....
