Thankyou for the facts!
Such a pity that MP58 will not 'qualify'. I really wanted something V6/V8 rather than a 4 pot, but maybe I will have to settle for a 4 cylinder. The engineering is not an issue as I have resources and skills needed. There is always the Brabham B40/Pilbeam rolling chassis. Thankyou again, Graham. |

Not what it seems!

Dependant on your budget there are a lot of suitable cars out there. I would suggest that when you find something that interests you post the details in the General Motorsport History section to get an appraisal of the vehicle. |

Going back a bit, I just thought I'd add a bit about MP43's:
MP43-002 (this is how the chassis no. is written): Rhys Howells was killed 26 April 2006 at Llandow testing the car with a twin-turbo Rover Wildcat engine (it hadn't raced in this guise). The remains of car were sold to Rodney Thorne and front and rear ends were re-used with a new Pilbeam chassis (005) along with the Rover V8 from Thorne’s Westfield SEight hillclimb car. The car first appeared in 2007, and Thorne has decided to retain chassis plate ‘002’ on the car (confirmed in discussion at this morning's Longleat hill climb). The 'Fidoe' car (referred to in this thread as 'MP43 04'): According to Rodney Thorne, this was built-up from a spare Pilbeam tub, but I have a photo of it wearing chassis number 'MP43-003'. Thus, I think we can confirm that -001 is Barry Lines' twin-turbo car, -002 (-005) is with Rodney Thorne and -003 is with the Fidoes. Thus, is -004 the Charlie/Justin Smith car? I'd appreciate any comments. Hope this helps. |

MP43
My limited observations are:-
MP43-002 Hart 2.5 David Render 1986 and 1988 MP43C-04 Millington 2.6 Charlie Smith (and Jim Robinson) 1999 and Charlie Smith 2005. Hopefully, this confirms the recent posts. |

Mp 43 / 01
A further update on this car.
I have now bought it, less engine, from Barrie Lines. Tempting as it was to stick the 2.8 Hart Turbo from my MP53 into it, I have realised the futility and pointlessness of that move, however, "we have a plan". It involves a big German V8 and a lot of head scratching, fabrication and luck. It should make it for next season. If it starts to work out I will reveal more in due course. |

Mp43/01
No, it is definitely intended for Hills !!
Perhaps I should have said "A big capacity, lightweight German V8". The car was built originally as a Hillclimb car, and I believe that is how it should stay ! I also prefer Hills. |

Deep, deep joy - sounds a cracker: there aren't enough Sports Libre cars out there and this will be a really welcome returnee in whatever guise.
Roll on 2009. Now where are those TKD V8s? |

To bring it up-to-date, there is a new VdeV UK endurance racer run by Lanan Racing. I saw it at Brands recently. It is MP98-01-08 (Honda 2.0 engine)

MP 43/01 update
I now finally have a BMW S62 engine - this is the 5 litre V8 engine from an M5.
I have found people in the USA who will supply a Dry Sump Kit, Management, Vanos Elimination Kit etc etc. They reckon we should be on for about 480 - 500 bhp, and rev to 8500. Now I have a few months with a hacksaw and hammer to glue all this lot together, and I can't wait for next season ! |

Pilbeam Mp58h
I bought the Pilbeam MP58H 06 from Jim Robinson a few years back to compete in the Irish Hillclimb championship.
Had a bit of an off in Knockalla at the same corner that destroyed Andy Kittles MP40. rolled it! Consequently does anyone know of any spare MP58 bits and pieces going for sale? Could do with some spares!! Paul O'Connell |

Hi Steve
Do you know any more information on Mp57 01. I nearly drove this car back in 93 and would love to know if it has survived and if it is still being run? |

I believe he may still have it. I sold him MP57/02 in 1999. |

Pilbeam MP 62 and 82
The works Pilbeam MP62-01 was flown to Sydney Australia for AD-O and Peter Finlay to drive in the Australian Hillclimb Championships on the Esses course at Easter 1996. Finlay, NSW state title holder in 1993,4 & 5 in his supercharged Mawer Formula Ford chassis, arranged for Mike Plibeam and Alister Douglas-Osborne to travel to Sydney and stay with Peter and his wife, Gaye. Mike sent the car out, never having met Peter. Peter assembled the car which had been knocked down by the shippers. The Bathurst Light Car Club footed the bill for AD-O's airfares. Peter took a close second outright; 0.007 seconds being the margin. AD-O was a regular driver of the car in the UK, often accompanied by another driver, the most notable being John McClelland at Prescott. During June 1997, Peter and Gaye, along with the now late Ivan Tighe, triple Australian Hillclimb Title holder travelled to the UK to contest three championship events. Peter tested the new MP82-01 with FT 200 transaxle (fitted with sequential shift mechanism) at Curborough as did Ivan in the ex-Priaulx MP47 which he had hired. With AD-O and Willem Toet driving the works car at the 50th Anniversary of the RACUKHCC at Shelsley Walsh, Peter hired Ben Boult's MP 53 (I think) Cosworth for the event. He then transferred to co-driving the MP82 at Loton Park and Prescott later in the month.
