British GP Speed Limit?

I received this bewildering e-mail below from someone I know at Octagon this morning! Well, it was bewildering until I remembered that today is April Fool's day!
However, they reckon it's true!
No, it's got to be a prank...well it is, isn't it?

"We have been informed that, for reasons of health & safety, the EU is trying to impose a maximum speed limit of 160km per hour (100mph) for all of the the F1 Grand Prix being run in Europe from 2004 onwards. What next - traffic calming measures at World Superbikes?

We need to voice our strong opposition to this ridiculous proposal.
Thank you for your concern for our industry".

I think the story is slightly wrong. I believe they were referring to the pit lane speed limit at Rockingham for the double decker bur series proposed to run on the oval with the Ascar series this year.

Double deckers round the oval??

Cool!!

Actually, Octagon should watch it - some idiot in Brussels will probably pick up on that idea and slap a 160km/h limit on track days...

... can you imagine the Nordschleiffe (if that's spelt right it's a fluke) with speed cameras??

seeing as April fools day must be over in ALL countries this can stop and we can belive whats being posted now.
A speedlimit would only benefit tose with better acceleration and handling, the small teams would still loose out and it would cause more accidents as people try dangerous out-braking manouvers.

The alarming thing is that, given all the odd rules and regulations the FIA have been coming up with recently, I have to read things like this two or three times just in case it's a genuine regulation.
