SL should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
DR,

That photo is scary. Maybe the last full photo of John Woolf alive. What were the doors made of, fibreglass ?

Porsche was using their own composite material on all their cars by then. Ferdinand Piech's edict was light weight, high horsepower and slippery aerodynamics. The composite material was developed in Porsche's hill climb program, where mere ounces saved was considered solid gold.

I don't know what Porsche's composite material was made of, but it was light for sure. Gerhard Mitter said the body material was so thin on his hillclimb car that he could see light on his knees shining through the body!

The entire body shell and belly pan of a 908/3 was only 27lbs, so it was some good stuff. Still, the cars were built to be so lightweight that a good look at one will scare you. I see all the old Porsches at the vintage races and I don't think i'de want to drive one. But those guys back then did, and for real.

I have found a pic of Ickx getting into his car, but not the running bit.
If I knew how to post it I would!
