J_Ickx_Fan should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Le Mans 1969

Hello

I already posted this request to the historic forum but I may have more luck in here

I'm looking for a picture of Jacky Ickx at Le Mans 1969 when he decided to walk at the start of the race instead of the usual run and jump into the car.

He was driving the Ford GT40 and won after that amazing fight with the Porsche

Any help would be appreciated

Julien Garnier

This was a classic, there is a video that shows the race with driver interviews and a flying lap in a GT40. The title is La'Ronde Infernale I got a copy from Duke Video and must say it has to be one of the best in my collection.

Maybe you could grap somethings from this???

Oups !

While i am always willing to share whatever photos/pics/art that I have, I am unable to locate the picture of Ickx strolling to his car. However, until i can, maybe this will be a small consolation.

Thanks a lot ... Merci ...
I've got already a lot of pictures of Jacky Ickx and most of them are on my website http://users.skynet.be/JackyIckx/

I'm trying to have it the most completed and have already a few rare pictures to update my site but that typical picture is driving me crazy. I had it in the past but can't find anymore.

Anyway, thanks again

Julien

Par hazard, tu n'aurais pas des photos originales de Jacky Ickx dans ton bouquin ? Pas évident de trouver des bouquins concernant JI Ã* cette époque

D'avance je te remercie ... (mon e-mail se trouve sur mon site)

Thanks, but that would be Franco at motorracingretro.com

Most of the images I have came from Franco's CD sets. We all really need to support Franco's archive if we want to have such a great source for pictures. The CD sets are veeeeeeery inexpensive. I am embarrassed that we pay so little for such a valuable service. Someone has to keep the images alive, and Franco has chosen that as his mission.

He has sportscar, F-1 and Indy CD sets. And others. I just got my Porsche 917 CD and there were pics I had never seen before. The GT-40 set is great as well.

As for the 1969 LeMans photo, i suggest you contact Franco. if anyone has it, it would be him. Like everyone else here, i have seen it, and probably still have it, just not on my computer just yet. I am always digging for photos and scanning what i have, so if I find it, I will put it up.

But give Franco a try........

Good work!!!! But the color photo is from 1968. i can tell because it is the green nosed 908 of siffert/Redman that is on pole. In 69, it was the yellow nosed 917 of stommelen/Ahrens on pole.

But the black and white is indeed 1969. Great work. SL!

This is one of the reasons why the LeMans start is gone. This is Jonathan Woolfe was an accomplished privateer who bought the first customer 917. It it theorized that he did not take the time to properly belt himself in. Coming into White House corner he lost control and was killed. There were reports that he was hanging half out of the car when it crashed. Within a few laps, Vic Elford pitted his 917 to have the door properly closed. I have sat in a 917 and the hinges and latches are pretty cheesey. Scarey, actually. The theory is that Woolfe's door popped open and the air pressure pulled him out of the car.

Combined with Ickx' high profile protest, the orgainizers were forced to first modify, then do away with the traditional LeMans start. While I applaud the interest of safety, I also mourn the loss of another of the sport's grand traditions.

Just sent the mail.

I might have other Ickx photo's from various Le Mans trips, any others you interested in ?

Had a quick look at your site as well, I must say I am very impressed. Ever thought about adding a forum ? I know Craig is always on the lookout for affiliates ?

I got the mail and already sent private thanks, I didn't watch this forum before sending since I was excited about the picture.
Of course any pictures of Jacky Ickx will be really appreciated. It is quit hard to find now.

Now about adding a forum, I have no clue about it. Any info are welcome, I'm almost retired and have lot of time to take care of my website
