Bike Marshals- Thery're not a bad bunch of people!

I was fortunte enuff to be invited to Oulton park for a Bemsee/MRO bike meeting held over the Easter w/e by "sss" (Steve) .Now some of you other car marshals have given bike marshals some serious stick in the past, not only on the Marshals Forum but at car meetings that I've attended in the past few years. But after what I must say was a great w/e of bike racing, I must also say that I think some of us car marshals have got it wrong about the bike marshals.
The guys (and gals) I met at the meeting were really welcoming to me as a newbie to bike marshaling. I was treated very well by all throughout the w/e and will definately be doing more bike meetings in the future because of it.
I must say a big thanks to Tony, Mandy, Alex (the lil guy), Tracy, Roy Humphries and evey1 one else I met at Oulton.
So come on you car marsshals, give the bike people a break, go try a Bemsee or MRO meeting and see for yourselves that bike marshals aren't a bad bunch of people afterall.

It must be said, that while I don't like or do bike racing, I did do one meeting a few years ago with the NGMCC. I had the luck of getting Nino & his wife in charge. I couldn't help but be impressed at the way they worked the post. And on the odd occasions I run into bikey's & racesafe types, they all seem cut from the same good cloth.

Respect to bikey marshals - you're all as mad as snakes but top blokes & blokettes.

2 things you may be able to answer for me,

1 - why should we have to pay 10 pound or whatever the fee is now to 'join' racesafe (that is if you still have to)

and

2 - why do we have to do a racesafe training day, when any ACU one should count,

You don't have to do a Racesafe training day - they accept any ACU training (or, they did in our case!).

Where do they hold Racesafe and ACU training days as a rule? I'm not far from Donington or Mallory, and Darly Moore is not that far away either.

Racesafe uses several circuits; there's a training day at Rockingham on July 5th; see www.racesafe.org for more information.

Just about any club which organises racing will have a marshals' training day, but, of course, most of them will be held before the start of the season, so you've missed them for this year.

Moxeythemarshal - I don't think I got to meet you at Oulton but I hear you'll be at Snett. so hopefully I'll meet you there.

I just wanted to say that I was working at Shell Oils and the marshals I was with were a great bunch of people. They made me feel very welcome, as did many others that I spoke to.

I hope we have the opportunity to work together again in future.

As to us being mad as snakes - yep, I'd agree with that.
