2002 Trading Post Grand Prix Rally
For the past 4 years I have been providing some timing facilities for the annual GP Rally - until last year run from Shepparton in northern VIC, down through Melbourne and along the west side of the bay.
This year the route has been changed to go from Shepparton, through Benalla, Wangaratta, across to Bright over the Divide along the Great Alpine Road through Omeo, Swifts Creek, Bruthen down to Lakes Entrance, Bairnsdale, Sale, Maffra, Traralgon, Wonthaggi, Phillip Island, Lang Lang and back to Melbourne. This weekend just gone, SWMBO and I decided to do the drive from Wangaratta down to Lakes Entrance in order to see and check out some of the obscure places we will be timing this year (like on a country road 3 km outside of Swifts Creek!!!) What a drive it will be for the rally cars - for us, finding Mt Hotham as clear as a bell, with the chair lift operating on Saturday - wind was coldish (13 Celsius) - but as clear as it ever could be. For anyone not doing anything the week of Feb 23 to 27 - if you are in the are these cars head through - go take a look. http://www.racetime.com.au/?racenews=00000829 will give you a broad overview of the route and I should have some digital images of some of the locations available in the next few days - was well worth the drive through. |

And come and meet the timers (of course before or after the events only as they will be busy otherwise)

I could take this two ways - first - say yes - but we have to have a bloody long lead for the starter to push his start button for each car
And second - depends on each sub0event. Mostly we are at the finish to each sub-event and someone on a radio tells us when a vehicle starts. But then, there are the flying 1/8th mile events (such as on the Sale Airport Runway... |

Most likely at the end of some of the sub-events
