Except, a privateer should still be able to get close on pace for one lap. In LMP1, they're NOT!
And, unfortunately, if racing has become "entertainment", as so many say it has, you simply cannot afford to allow anybody to dominate for long, regardless of the reasons. I don't see a good chance of another factory team joining the fray at this point. If you're going with petrol, Audi has seven years with that, and for diesel, Audi has coming up on five years with that. No factory, Audi included, has made more than a three-year, initial commitment to Le Mans in over a decade. The 1999 R8Rs and R8Cs were testbeds.
