Is that this year's? last years? the year before that? how about before that? or that?

Anyway, let's just hope it's fast . Go Kimi! or DC! Heck, I guess I'm a McFan next year.

how the hell did you find these pictures!? i don't even think that the new MP4/17 has benn launched yet!

Actually, are you even sure that it is the new car?!

Anyway, i await to see the performance of the car and kimi! this could be a great year for McLaren! since kimi was so quick in testing and broke a lap record, the thing obviously is fast, but have we seen the new Williams and ferrari at that track, as they could also easily blow the record over, but go kimi!!!

Looks like mika may not have a seat for 2003, if he comes back!

Looks more like last years Ferarri. eg low nose, aero add-ons. They must have solved their overheating problem. No more chimneys, and tiny radiator openings.

First impression is favourable. It seems that Newey had combined the best of his ideas with the best of Ferrari's to come up with the 17.

And it seems that the new V10 is very effective...the air intakes look so much smaller and aero-dynamically shaped, and the chimneys are now gone. Mclaren seems to have an impressive car on hand.

Can anybody explain the front suspension arm..something looks different...

What looks different (but can't explain why) is the 90 deg angle the suspension arm makes with the body. Here's the MP4/16. (darn, couldn't they use a "less black" color scheme? )

That might be a stupid question. But does anyone know who's logo is (I mean was) that one with a man, right on the front wing? (the one that was different from David's and Mika's cars?) And why is missing?

They look a bit like the logos on those expensive German kitchen knives - henckle hoenicker or something like that. I'll have to check the next time I go to a mall.

You mean the logos on the front wing that were red for Mika and balck for DavĂ*d?? That was the West logo indeed.

COR!! WHERE DID THESE PICS COME FROM!!! You're right, we're not supposed to be seeing these for WEEKS!! And I have to say that whilst last years one was a truly beautiful piece of automotive art, so is this one.

Look, I don't think the paint job is all that. It's getting a bit stale if you ask me, you hardly look at it. But TRY (work with me here) TRY with all your mind to "stip away" the paint. What a gorgeous motor car that is.

Things that caught my eye: new front suspension. IT'S MASSIVE!! New brake coolers. New front wing a much better effort. Really less... draggy (is that a word?? it is now). Lack of coolers AND YET look at the size of those side pods. They're non existant. I mean, compare it with the Jag R3 and you can see what I'm on about. The Jag's are the size of a wheelie bin. You couldn't hide a mobile phone in the MP4/17's. New rear wing near the wheels to tidy up airflow. Oh sod it, it's a whole new back end!!

It's completely gorgeous. But I'm waiting for F2002. In fact I can't wait. Any more. COME ON MAN!!!

It is one of the nicest looking cars I've seen. If it is sympathetic to the Michelins, as the MP4-16 appears to be, then Mac is back!
Hopefully, reliability issues won't wreck what is shaping up to be the best season in years.....

Red, thanks for posting both the pictures back to back. The more I compare them, the more differences I see.
-The front suspension looks brilliant. Instead of a clutter of suspension arms causing unwanted drag, the new design has one massive lateral arm, with a couple of smaller ones. This is sure to produce less drag. And look at the shape of those huge arms. Could they infact provide downforce?!?!
-On the back end, I think its really significant that there are aero add-ons. Last years McLaren didn't have any, even at Monaco. This tells us that the overall design last year provided heaps of downforce, but apparently at the expense of added drag. This design is completly different. I think the idea being that you can add downforce, but you can not add less drag. I think they learned a lesson from Ferrari, judging by the fact that the MP4/17 and the F2001 are conceptually similar.
They have also move the exhaust outlets to the engine cover from the diffuser.
And whats with the HUGE front brake ducts? I bet its a red herring.
They must have come up with a solution, as Ferrari have, to get rid of the giant brake ducts.

I LOVE IT!
And as Tristan said, it's not only the paintwork. There's really beautifull F1 car under it.

Perfect!

I love the paintwork. Its what make the McLaren what it is. No one ever complains that Ferrari doesn't change its paintjob.

McLaren rule!
