Whatever they do, I hope they do it jointly with IMSA so it's essentially the same class, same specs, same BoP process and the same name! Call it GTS or GTR or something neutral (but not GTLMD please! ).

If they're going to change anything, I'd hope for more straight line speed at the expense of cornering speed. This would make cars more spectacular to watch and better in traffic. Also, can we have louder exhausts pretty please?

Both S365 and DSC reported that GTE Pro ends after 2022 (leaving only GTE Am for 2023), but then S365 edited its article.

Quote:
It was initially anticipated that GTE-Pro would be phased out after next year, leaving GTE-Am to steer the formula through its final season, however both categories will remain for the full duration of the regulations.

How come? A few more cars than in GTE but SRO has managed it well. Maybe even too well since the differences are always so minimal.

And lets not forget that Le Mans Cup already runs GT3 so there's experience BoPing them... including at Le Mans.

True, just basing that thinking on current SRO BOP where the BMW, Bentley, Aston Martin are very fast on the straights, anyway as you said ACO will have their own data & experience

Not to mention that IMSA have their own completely independent BoP system for GT3 cars, from which ACO will learn, I hope.

bmw has a 4.4L and bentley a 4L, both twin turbo, it's normal they are fast on straight... I can't remember complaints or issues about bop during last years in gt3 classes or championships, guess there is a status quo about level of performances of different cars.

I seriously doubt that any manufacturer would agree to spend money on modifying GT3 cars (which are easy to sell) into a GT3 Plus or something, no matter I'd hate to see anti-lock brakes allowed.

I'm with you there, it seems like some of the manufacturers are behind the idea at least a little as well. They know the arms race that comes and the sales of GT3 cars are good for them to privateers.

With the success of the new GTD Pro class at IMSA, are we sure that the ACO will restrict GT3 entries to pro-am only?

If they do, I can imagine a scenario where a manufacturer starts paying a good AM to drive for them!

Yup, what part of the past history of the ACO would make you think they wouldn't hold to their decision regardless of what could be? Plus they want to put everyone in to building a hypercar.

Why? Why is this really needed? Its more expense for teams. Its like they just have to have a gimmick or something, they just cant leave things alone. All they had to do was take a GT3 car and put it on the track but nope, we need to do something different!!!

Because if they didn't do anything different, they would be adopting SRO regs directly, and for the ACO, that simply cannot happen.

What about the “new” GT2 regs? What’s happening with that rule set?
