The most exciting f1 race finish?
What do you consider as the most exciting finish to a F1 race...
I offer as a candidate, Jochen Rindt's win at Monaco in 1970 driving the Lotus Cosworth 49C (long in the tooth by then...pending the 72). A lucky win but he was balls out the last 6 or 7 laps catching and passing Jack Brabham in the BT33 at the last corner of the last lap. Cheers Peter |

Monaco 1992 and this year were pretty nerve-wracking, but Monza 1971 was an incredible final lap - the top 5 (none of whom had ever won before) seperated by less than a second, with Gethin going from 4th to 1st after the penultimate corner to win.

Arnoux and Villeneuve without question and it was the French GP 1979. The two most exciting laps of motor racing ever televised. Nothing else even comes close...

France 1979 was even better - they were side by side for at least half the lap, and each made 2 genuine overtaking attempts on the last lap, while both running safely in the points. That and Monza 1971 are probably the greatest, and I was born after both of them..... now we get people citing Austria 2002 as excitement....

Japan 1994 was edge-of-the-seat stuff. Jerez 1986. And another vote for Austria 1982, but Monaco 1982 was the race it seemed no-one wanted to win. |
